RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE
Currently working at Bitterne Park School in Southampton delivering an
intensive course in ECDL (Business Computing Qualification)
Achieved excellent results with all passed mostly at merit and distinction level. Excellent
reference available.
St Anne’s in Southampton (January term) 2015 Business Studies and some ICT
This is the top rated (Ofsted) School in Southampton. A Catholic Girls with a mix of
Catholics Muslims and other faiths. I was employed to teach mostly A level and GCSE
sets (KS3/4/5) for the examination year. I was very well received by the students and
the Deputy Head Mrs Rosie Gould who was my line Manager. Indeed Mrs Gould said
that the students found my teaching so interesting and refreshingly different to the
previous teaching that she would adopt my ideas into her department’s already
outstanding (Ofsted) practice. The key difference in my approach can be summarised as
“find out what the students are interested in and use that in your teaching”. An example
was that instead of using the example in the scheme of work (car industry) I used the
food industry as the key manufacturing sector – much more interesting to 17-18 young
women and something that they find easier to relate to and thus recall in the exam.
When we looked at finance I included a section on Islamic banking and the fact that
interest is not allowed in Islam and what this means for the banking industry. This was
obviously interesting to the Muslims in the class but it was also very interesting to the
non-Muslims as they had wondered about this seeming anomaly.
2011-5 Cavendish School of English TEFL Every year (last 6) June –November
This is an International Language School. I mainly teach the top sets a mixture of the
English Language, History and Business Studies/Presentation skills (KS3/4/5). An
example of this is a 3 day project using a Holiday Company “The Sky’s the Limit” as a
case study. The students are given key language and information about the tourism
industry in the first phase of the project. Then they are reminded (As I have previous
taught them the basics) what a business presentation involves and what kind of data etc.
is required. Then in the second phase they research using books the internet etc. In the
third stage each group of students brings the information together and creates a solid
business proposal with financial marketing segmentation and other information. Finally
each group gives a Presentation to the class and answers questions from the class on
their proposal. Feedback is initially from each of the other groups and then finally I as
the teacher sum up the feedback and give additional feedback. Each group then gives a
mark to the presenting groups and I then give an overall mark usually based on the
student’s marks (very occasionally I have to change this).
WORK EXPERIENCE
2013 JJ Education TEFL over the summer term. . Supply rest of year
2012 Europa School of English. TEFL/Bus St. Summer term. Supply rest of year
2010- Supply Teacher Teaching Business and ICT mostly in secondary schools
2012 in Southampton
2007- Business Studies Teacher, Regents Park (KS3/4)
2009 Teaching a mix of Key skills (mainly ICT), Enterprise and Innovation, Leisure
and Tourism GNVQ and Business Studies GCSE KS3/4.
2006 Supply Teacher
2003- Teacher of ICT and Business, Westwood St Thomas (KS3/4/5)
2005 ICT was a area of major weakness at Westwood both in terms of hardware
/software and pupil knowledge. I advised the Head on how to resolve some of
the important errors in the network design/software configuration of the system.
2002- I spent one term acting as SENCO at Middle School in Dorset. One term was
2003 spent as an ICT Co-ordinator at a Secondary School during its final chance
Ofsted Inspection before it was placed into special measures. The actual HOD
was ill. The department passed its inspectional due to both of my lessons being
graded very good (6/7) this prevented the school entering special measures.
2001- ICT Co-ordinator, Shaftsbury School & Sports College (all year) (KS3/4/5)
2002 A School in special measures presents a special challenge. The challenge is even
greater when the ICT is a major weakness and the School is massively in debt
and thus cannot afford adequate ICT provision. My task was to turn around a
department in crises and to manage the very limited equipment in such a way as
to maximise its effective use. This was extremely challenging and required
creative solutions and approaches to complex and sometimes almost irresolvable
problems. Due to much hard work the school has left special measures with ICT
much improved both as a subject and cross the curriculum.
2000- Teacher, Douay Martyrs School (KS3/4/5)
1999 Second in Department. Taught ICT using both Macs and PCs. Contributed to
the school obtaining Beacon status. Taught from KS3 to A-level. Dramatically
increased the grades at A-level and rescued a failing Y11 GCSE class. Helped
colleagues introduce ICT into their teaching practise. Responsible for organising
the Y10 exams. Rewrote the IS materials and the KS3 curriculum.
1998 Teacher, Philip Morant School (KS3/4)
Taught KS3/4 ICT in a challenging environment.
1996 Tutor/Researcher, Luton University
-97 Taught in the Business School various Degree Courses including Accountancy,
Finance and International Business. Researched Management Buy-outs.
1994 Romedia Interactive Services
-95 Researched and evaluated the overseas market potential of the
companies’ products (CD-ROM Software and Multimedia hardware).
Negotiated distribution agreements in Europe and the USA.
Re-engineered the company into new product areas and markets.
Year if a school/university means academic year otherwise means approx. Jan-Dec
