• Broadcom has eliminated perpetual licenses and switched to a subscription-based model. This has led to higher prices for many customers.
• Broadcom has combined VMware products into several bundles, which may require customers to pay for products they don't want or need.
• Broadcom has discontinued VMware Cloud on AWS, making porting their licensing to the cloud more challenging.

Move an application to the cloud without making any changes to take advantage of cloud capabilities.

Example Scenario:
A customer has combination of bare metal servers, Virtual Machines and Network storage running in their datacenter that needs to
be migrated to AWS.
The Approach:
Utilize a block-level copy strategy (lift-n-shift) with migration tooling to migrate the infrastructure data to cloud technologies like
Amazon Elastic Compute (EC2).
Key Information:
• Quick Win: fastest path to cloud and is the preferred approach when there is a known datacenter exit date that must be met.
• This strategy has a low level of risk associated with it but could lead to higher cloud infrastructure costs and supportability concerns.
• Modernization of infrastructure should follow the initial migration of infrastructure to help minimize costs and improve supportability.

Move an application to the cloud and introduce some level of optimization to take
advantage of cloud capabilities and reduce operational overhead without major rewrites.

Example Scenario:
A customer has applications that leverage relational databases like Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server that must be migrated to the cloud.
Other scenarios may include containerizing an existing monolithic legacy application.
The Approach:
Utilize migration tooling (lift-shift-n-tinker) to migrate the infrastructure to cloud technologies like Amazon Relational Database
Service (RDS) and AWS Database Migration Service. These AWS managed services have a higher infrastructure cost but lowers the TCO
by providing built in solutions for scalability, backup/recovery and patching.
Key Information:
• This strategy is a good balance between schedule and optimization. These migrations are mostly solved problems with a reduced amount of risk and complexity.
• The migration tools are mature and allow conversions between platforms to occur, like Oracle to PostgreSQL or MySQL, to eliminate licensing costs. However, this
may lean towards Refactor from an effort and impact standpoint.

Move an application and modify its architecture by taking full advantage
of cloud-native features to improve agility, performance, and scalability.

Example Scenario:
A customer has a legacy monolithic application with a large amount of technical debt that makes a migration to the cloud difficult (but
not impossible). These applications are typically business critical apps that lack agility which can help provide the justification for a
modernization budget.
The Approach:
Design and develop a serverless application with a modern development practices like microservices, full automation and a modern
data tier to leverage the full power of the cloud. These applications may utilize technologies like Amazon Lambda, Amazon
DynamoDB, etc.
Key Information:
• We do not recommend refactoring an application before migrating to the cloud. We would recommend migrating the existing technical stack to the cloud and
immediately begin the modernization journey – otherwise the schedule constraints and data synchronization issues may arise.
• The initial refactor cost often provides a positive TCO due to the reduced costs on cloud spend. We have been able to drive cloud spend down up to 80% in some
scenarios.

REPURCHASE
Purchase a different product, typically by moving from a traditional licensing
model to a SaaS model for commoditized systems that don’t need custom code.

A customer has an existing CRM implementation on-premises that they would like to migrate to Salesforce. Additionally, migrating
from on-premises Microsoft workloads to M365 or O365 is another common scenario.
The Approach:
Once a product has been selected (drop-n-shop), the migration effort centers on data integration as the platform is disconnected from
your traditional cloud infrastructure and security.
Key Information:
• Many on-premise platforms have a SaaS counterpart and migration tooling to make this process a more straightforward migration path.
• Find a partner that is strategic to the SaaS provider to help consult on the migration journey.

Key Information:
• Common when there are compliance or latency concerns, like connectivity to Mainframe applications and data.

Coming Soon... currently in preview with AWS Key Information: • Broadcom has eliminated perpetual licenses and switched to a subscription-based model. This has led to higher prices for many customers. • Broadcom has combined VMware products into several bundles, which may require customers to pay for products they don't want or need. • Broadcom has discontinued VMware Cloud on AWS, making porting their licensing to the cloud more challenging.
  • 9. GENERATIVE AI DATA & ANALYTICS MIGRATION & MODERNIZATION SaaS DEVELOPMENT • • • REHOST Move an application to the cloud without making any changes to take advantage of cloud capabilities. Cost: Risk: $$ Low Example Scenario: A customer has combination of bare metal servers, Virtual Machines and Network storage running in their datacenter that needs to be migrated to AWS. The Approach: Utilize a block-level copy strategy (lift-n-shift) with migration tooling to migrate the infrastructure data to cloud technologies like Amazon Elastic Compute (EC2). Key Information: • Quick Win: fastest path to cloud and is the preferred approach when there is a known datacenter exit date that must be met. • This strategy has a low level of risk associated with it but could lead to higher cloud infrastructure costs and supportability concerns. • Modernization of infrastructure should follow the initial migration of infrastructure to help minimize costs and improve supportability.

GENERATIVE AI DATA & ANALYTICS MIGRATION & MODERNIZATION SaaS DEVELOPMENT • • • REPLATFORM Move an application to the cloud and introduce some level of optimization to take advantage of cloud capabilities and reduce operational overhead without major rewrites. Cost: Risk: $$$ Medium Example Scenario: A customer has applications that leverage relational databases like Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server that must be migrated to the cloud. Other scenarios may include containerizing an existing monolithic legacy application. The Approach: Utilize migration tooling (lift-shift-n-tinker) to migrate the infrastructure to cloud technologies like Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) and AWS Database Migration Service. These AWS managed services have a higher infrastructure cost but lowers the TCO by providing built in solutions for scalability, backup/recovery and patching. Key Information: • This strategy is a good balance between schedule and optimization. These migrations are mostly solved problems with a reduced amount of risk and complexity. • The migration tools are mature and allow conversions between platforms to occur, like Oracle to PostgreSQL or MySQL, to eliminate licensing costs. However, this may lean towards Refactor from an effort and impact standpoint.

GENERATIVE AI DATA & ANALYTICS MIGRATION & MODERNIZATION SaaS DEVELOPMENT • • • REFACTOR Move an application and modify its architecture by taking full advantage of cloud-native features to improve agility, performance, and scalability. Cost: Risk: $$$$ High Example Scenario: A customer has a legacy monolithic application with a large amount of technical debt that makes a migration to the cloud difficult (but not impossible). These applications are typically business critical apps that lack agility which can help provide the justification for a modernization budget. The Approach: Design and develop a serverless application with a modern development practices like microservices, full automation and a modern data tier to leverage the full power of the cloud. These applications may utilize technologies like Amazon Lambda, Amazon DynamoDB, etc. Key Information: • We do not recommend refactoring an application before migrating to the cloud. We would recommend migrating the existing technical stack to the cloud and immediately begin the modernization journey – otherwise the schedule constraints and data synchronization issues may arise. • The initial refactor cost often provides a positive TCO due to the reduced costs on cloud spend. We have been able to drive cloud spend down up to 80% in some scenarios.

GENERATIVE AI DATA & ANALYTICS MIGRATION & MODERNIZATION SaaS DEVELOPMENT • • • REPURCHASE Purchase a different product, typically by moving from a traditional licensing model to a SaaS model for commoditized systems that don’t need custom code. Cost: Risk: $+ Medium Example Scenario: A customer has an existing CRM implementation on-premises that they would like to migrate to Salesforce. Additionally, migrating from on-premises Microsoft workloads to M365 or O365 is another common scenario. The Approach: Once a product has been selected (drop-n-shop), the migration effort centers on data integration as the platform is disconnected from your traditional cloud infrastructure and security. Key Information: • Many on-premise platforms have a SaaS counterpart and migration tooling to make this process a more straightforward migration path. • Find a partner that is strategic to the SaaS provider to help consult on the migration journey.

Cost: Risk: -- None Example Scenario: A customer has applications that have a technical or business reason to remain on-premise, like a platform has latency requirements or it integrates with local hardware, etc. For instance, manufacturing automation platforms or other hardware specific devices. The Approach: Confirm the technical or business rationale for the decision and move on to more important applications. Key Information: • Common when there are compliance or latency concerns, like connectivity to Mainframe applications and data. • Not every application was meant for the cloud!

Cost: Risk: $ Low Example Scenario A customer has applications running in their datacenter but may be considered end-of-life by the business or is considered technical debt that no one had time to address. The Approach: Confirm the technical or business rationale for the decision and move on to more important applications. Key Information: • Not every application was meant to live forever! • Sometimes applications sit idle because everyone thinks someone else is using it – fear not, shut it off and see who complains!
