IB Learners Strive to become:
http://www.ibo.org/en/digital-
toolkit/videos/
The Components of IBDP
 The core subjects consist of: CAS, TOK and the
Extended Essay (EE)
 All students must study six academic subjects
 3 at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL)
 All subjects will include a coursework component
The IBDP Subjects Offered
 Group One: Literature in the student’s ‘mother
tongue’
 Group Two: Second Language
 Group Three: Individuals and Societies
 Group Four: Experimental Sciences
 Group Five: Mathematics
 The Arts & Free Electives*
How is the IBDP graded?
 Scores: Exams are graded from 1 (Lowest) to
7 (Highest)
 Maximum points is 42 points for 6 subjects
 Extra 3 points awarded for TOK and EE
 No TOK, EE or CAS means no Diploma
How is the IBDP examined?
 All subjects outside of the core have a written
examination at the end of the 2 years.
 Assessment, both internal and external, is criterion
based.
 Each subject typically has 2 to 3 papers.
 Each subject will have some form of coursework.
 Final exams are in May at the end of a two year
course of study.
 The papers can be no more than 5 hours in total for
HL and no more than 3 hours in total for SL.
Diploma Points
 Minimum of 24 points for a Diploma.
 A ‘Good’ University will look for a student to achieve
between 30 to 37 points.
 A ‘Top’ University will look for a student to achieve
38 to 45 points.
 On average 78% of pupils taking IBDP achieve the
Diploma.
Universities enjoy from IBDP
students:
 The combination of breadth from the six
subjects.
 The depth of the HL subjects and depth from
the Extended Essay and TOK.
 The point scoring system as it discriminates
well at all levels and universities can select
applicants suited to their courses.
Universities enjoy from IBDP
students:
 Research skills – from the Extended Essay
 Critical skills – from TOK
 Language skills – from 2 languages
 Analytical skills – from IA’s and Science
 Mathematical skills – from maths
 Creative skills – from Arts and CAS
 Personal skills – from CAS
IBDP students are
 Prepared to study demanding subjects that
are not necessarily their strongest ones.
 Well organised and motivated.
 Are internationally minded in this ever
changing global World.
