1) Provincial reconstruction teams (PRTs) were created in 2003 by the US and coalition forces to aid in stabilization efforts in Afghanistan through developing infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and local governance.
2) Lt.jg. Vincent “Doc” Lopez currently serves as the lead medical officer for PRT Paktika, where he assists the Afghan public health leadership and visits clinics around the province.
3) In Paktika, medical facilities and care are limited, so Lopez works to mentor the medical staff and address issues like malnutrition, clean water access, and medical training to improve the quality of life for residents.
