This document discusses using deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGANs) to generate pixel art in order to reduce the high costs of creating art assets for mobile games. It details how a DCGAN was trained on a dataset of over 19,000 Pokémon frames to generate new pixel art monsters. The DCGAN model was trained for 20-30 minutes on a GPU and its generated artworks could be interacted with on a website. The document suggests additional applications of AI-generated pixel art such as for mobile stickers and album covers.
