This document outlines a training session focused on defending in blocks of 4 and 8 players. It includes 4 activities to teach technical, tactical, and functional defending skills:
1) Warm-up involving shadow defending drills in lines.
2) Small-sided game of 2v2 or 4v4 in grids to work on closing down, tackling, and transitioning play.
3) "Blocks of 4 splits game" with defending teams of 4 trying to prevent opponents from splitting their block with passing.
4) 8v10 or 11v11 games emphasizing transition from winning possession, including use of target players and restricting lines.
