- 1. Describing type Typeface is a set of characters (letters, numbers etc.) written in the same style and with the same features e.g. Times New Roman Font is the specific type of typeface that has certain size and style, e.g. Bold Times New Roman, size 12. Upper case is typeface that has larger characters e.g. ABC. They are used at the start of each sentence, for titles and through the text to make the important information stand out. Lower case is typeface that has smaller characters e.g. abc. They are used through the text or to write less important information. Numerals characters that represent numbers, the can be either Hindu-Arabic Numerals or Roman Numerals: 1234 or I II III IV Glyph is a graphic symbol that makes up the presence or form of a character. It can be alphabetic, numeric or be another kind of symbol. Commonly used glyphs are: ?, !, &,*, @. Point size is the size of the distance between the highest ascender and the bottom of a descender in type, it defines the size of the used typeface. Leading is the vertical space between lines of text and is measured from the baseline . Alignment styles define where the text is placed the types of alignment are: Left, Right, Centre and Justified. Kerning is the horizontal space between two letters that defines how close to each other the letters are.
- 2. Tracking adjusts the spacing between letters through the entire word and can be used to change the spacing equally between every letter at once. Dingbats are decorative, weird, different styles of typefaces which is basically typing images e.g. Wingdings typeface.
