This document summarizes a pilot study conducted at the University of Leicester assessing the feasibility of using iPads to administer formative assessments. The study found that while the ExamSoft software was easy to set up and use, around 2-3% of students experienced glitches requiring help and some reported questions freezing. Student feedback was predominantly negative regarding the user experience. However, the cost was acceptable and few practical problems occurred. While the digital platform exists, winning student acceptance of e-assessments remains a challenge. The university plans to continue using ExamSoft formatively, gather more student feedback, and revisit summative iPad assessments in the future.
