This document provides instructions for students to work in pairs to describe and explain patterns on a map. It lists questions for students to consider such as what is the pattern, where are there many/some/few items, and are there any clusters or linear patterns. It also provides prompts for students to explain why patterns exist, considering factors like distance, transport links, climate, availability, price, culture, and familiarity. Students are asked to write notes around the map in two colors describing and explaining observed patterns.
