This document describes the design and finite element analysis of a fixture for milling the top surface of a Cummins engine block. The goal was to design a milling fixture that could mill the engine block to a depth of 1mm within 3 minutes to meet a production target of 400 units per day. The fixture design was modeled in solid modeling software and analyzed using finite element analysis software to evaluate stresses. The analysis found that stresses in critical parts like the clamp strap, height bracket, and pins were well below the yield strengths of the respective materials, indicating the fixture design was structurally feasible for its intended use.
