My insights : Ushree
 Major concern in this phase of transition :
 ‘Empathy’
 ‘Reality’
 ‘Expert guidance’
 Graduate student
 Recent graduate
 Parents
 Friends
 Career counselor
 Human Resource professional
 Unemployed
 Graduate student – forces motivate them : career
options of previous students, role models in their
fields of choice, similarly, lack of opportunities and
competition in their field of interest often de-
motivate them , besides, in the era of globalization
international and domestic job market play a
crucial role
 Hurdles : failure to follow their true instinct, lack of
faith in their own creativity, risk averseness,
societal/parental pressure, lack of confidence
 Career counselor: helps in career exploration, personal career
development, career change, and other career related issues.
While an HR may have industry specific understanding, a
career counselor may give an overall idea about trends and
opportunities in job market/preferences of job seekers
 Though, in many cases people avoid professional career
counselor, instead, they find advice from their superiors or
peers working in the same line more useful. Sometimes, career
counselor just force the student to go for popular trades with
market demand neglecting their natural talent, inclination and
interest.
Graduate student:
 What do you want to do once you get your degree?
 Who are the people influence you most to make your career choices?
 What motivates you most while designing your future course of action? Money/social status/ your own interest/
parent’s preference / peers/ senior’s career choices/ digital media / social media / others
 What do you think of your ability of risk taking? High/low/moderate
 Share your childhood dreams about your career?
 What prohibits you from pursuing this?
 If get a chance, without any restriction, where do you see yourself after 5 years from now?
 Given a chance, are you willing to change your career?
Career counselor:
 Tell me something about your clientele? (age group, social background, level of education , expertise )
 Do you think people come to you only when they fail to understand what to do with their career?
 What are their major concerns while deciding about future course of action?
 While advising them what are the major areas you focus on mostly? Security/ money/ future opportunity/ to
identify their natural inclination and guide them / international-national trend/ upcoming technologies
 Do you consider psychological aspect of your client?
 Do you think you are updated enough to guide clients about their career?
‘ childhood dream of becoming a chef’
‘criticism from family-friends discourage me’
‘do not like to play with numbers ..a sort of
compulsion’
‘seniors from our classes are all hired by IT majors’
‘if I have enough money I can think of a career
change’
‘just want to make sure that my family and friends
appreciate my achievement..’
 Uncertainty
 Peer pressure
 Risk averseness
 Disliking about his next career move
 Money is main hindrance that deter people
from experimenting with their career
 They have limited choices to explore
 Career counseling after / during graduation
and school years are not so popular
 In most cases graduate students make their
career moves based on social/family
expectation
