•Attendees NRE Chris Scoggins, Derek Parlour and
Jason Webb.
•Developers Jonathan Raper, Pascal Simplice, Dave
Addey, Peter Hicks, Jonathan Tilley.
•NRE ran through the presentations giving an
overview of NRE, their development roadmap and
services offered.
•Areas of specific discussion include:
NRE – Developer Day Notes 22-05-13
•Definition of a dataset as opposed to a service. There
was a view by one attendee that as Darwin produces
information it is a dataset. Raw data is collected
whereas something like Darwin takes that raw data
and uses a considerable amount of IP to create
processed information. An ongoing service is needed
to make it real time.
•NRE pointed out that there are several real time train
information services in the U.K.
•The level of data in the LDB webservice was
questioned and NRE agreed to look at the viability of
adding in calling points.
NRE – Developer Day Notes 22-05-13
•There was a request for access to other NRE services
such as staff versions.
•There was a feeling from developers that the ORR
involvement had run its course and it would be
beneficial to all if the matter was left to the market.
•There was a comment about how difficult it was to
get access to push port but NRE pointed out the
issues and also clarified that there were already push
port licences in effect.
•There was a request for NRE to put links to 3rd party
developers apps on the NRE website.
NRE – Developer Day Notes 22-05-13
•A number of other requests came up that were
outside of NRE systems (routeing guide and fares)
and NRE suggested people contact RSP for these.
•There was clarification from NRE that they did indeed
pay for much of the data that goes into Darwin.
•There were questions asked about 3rd party customer
feedback on errors. NRE suggested that in the first
instance these could be directed to the NRE feedback
channels.
NRE – Developer Day Notes 22-05-13
•Push notifications was raised again and NRE said they
would look at a possible commercial model for this
but did say that it may not be made available to 3rd
parties.
• There was interest in the subscription model and
NRE have sent out details to the developer who
wanted to explore this.
•NRE also undertook to look at station codes in the
disruption XML and looking at JSON format for
services.
•Next Developer Day planned for September.
