Challenge
• How ready is your Organisation for Social
Learning?
Totally Somewhat Not...
Our Journey
• Part 1: Social Learning Design
• Part 2: The Environment
• Part 3: Community
• Part 4: Outcomes and Adaptation
Part 1: Social Learning
Design
Our Journey
• Part 1: Social Learning Design
• Our Challenge - the case study we will work on
• Learning Methodology - six steps to learning
• Scaffolded Social Learning - a design methodology
• Choreography - total design approach
• Part 2: The Environment
• Part 3: Community
• Part 4: Outcomes and Adaptation
Our Challenge
• We need to develop a Leadership Development
programme for 800 engineers and sales people in a global
aviation & engineering business
• We will look at four stages of this:
• Social Learning in the design of the programme
• The Environment it will run in
• The learning community, and how we nurture it
• Measuring outcomes and adapting
The Population
• The challenge is to build an 'Innovation Leadership'
programme for 800 leaders in an established global business.
• The population includes:
• 100 senior leaders representing Asia, Europe, Middle
East and the US
• 200 graduates
• 200 front line sales people
• 300 from a new startup acquisition, mainly engineers
The Current Offering
• A three month programme:
• 2 x 1 week residential courses, wk1 and wk 12
• Workbook based study to complete
• Weekly 'CEO video' to challenge them
• Graduation ceremony for those in the US
Key Business Challenges
• Stalled innovation programme
• Low engagement survey results
• No common IT platform (legacy system for
acquisition)
• Disrupted industry
Take 5 mins: Decide
• What are the key challenges?
• What will a successful outcome look like?

• Set context
• Demonstrate core learning
• Explore
• Reflect
• Assess
• Support Footsteps

• How will we PROGRAMME the learning
• What is our POSTURE
• What principles will drive our PERFORMANCE
Challenge
• Design a learning journey for the project. Include:
• How would you apply the methodology?
• The formal and social elements: what will you 'give',
what will be 'co-created'

Our Journey
• Part 1: Social Learning Design
• Part 2: The Environment
• Technology - diverse ecosystems and needs
• Running Order - delivering the experience
• Rules - co-creating and enforcing
