This exploratory qualitative study investigates the emotional impact of mammographic screening on women aged 35-50 diagnosed with breast cancer while on a screening program due to family history. Interviews with 12 participants revealed that many experienced reassurance from the early detection, yet reactions to their diagnosis varied from relief to devastation. Despite positive attitudes towards screening, some women preferred prophylactic mastectomy to reduce future cancer risk and alleviate anxiety.
