DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN
SELF
RESPECT
&
EGO
WHAT IS SELF RESPECT ???
Self-respect is a feeling of confidence
and pride in your own ability and worth.
Self respect is defined as holding
yourself in esteem and believing that you
are good and worthy of being treated
well.
WHAT IS EGO ???
Your ego is your conscious mind, the part of
your identity that you consider your "self."
An inflated feeling of pride in your
superiority to others.
Your consciousness of your own identity.
True self is to know yourself with having the feel everyone
is equal and so am I and it is important for you to have the
perfect knowledge of oneself for leading a successful life.
SELF RESPECT
When you know
yourself you will develop
the feeling of self-respect
and you provide the same
kind of respect to others.
You will be able to have a good balance in life when you
know you true self. Pride and greed can stay away from you
and this can make your personality much positive.
Self-respect comes from within you. It comes from
virtues like patience, honesty and kindness. When you
lose wealth or position, you won’t lose your self-respect.
Individuals with positive attitude understand the
significance of self-respect and self-awareness and they
perform their actions accordingly.
Ego makes a man come down
in life. Being humble is the only
way that can make a man reach
the heights of glory. This can be
acquired only with by leaving
the feeling of ego.
EGO
Ego is the biggest enemy for a man to come up in life and
this can make him feel that there is nobody above him and
can make the individual ill-mannered and disrespectful
towards others.
The ego is the opposite of self-respect. The problem with
the ego is it can often ‘disguise’ itself as your self-respect
and it is important to become aware of this behaviour
when it arises.
Ego is fuelled by materialistic achievements; for example,
you feel extremely proud of yourself when you buy a new
house or a new car or when you get promoted to a higher
rank. You start thinking that you are superior from rest of
the world. But what you don’t realize at such a moment is
that these things are not permanent in nature. You can
lose all your wealth, fame or position in a blink of an eye.
There is minor difference between the two.
Ego makes us to think of our own needs and benefits.
Whereas , a feeling of self-respect develops when we
have confidence in what we do which comes when we
do any act according to our conscience.
When ego shattered, we usually get into anger and
try to shed our anger on others. We try our best to
defend ourselves in every possible way. But when our
self-respect gets hurt we usually feel helpless and
start questing our self and even try to hurt also in
some cases.
If you allow your ego to overpower your self-
respect, all your acquired knowledge will get
converted into ignorance. Identify that thin line
between self-respect and ego and try not to cross that
line, if you want to live a peaceful, dutiful life.
Self is that part of you which is connected to a higher
being, while ego is that sense of self-importance that you
have when you compare yourself with others.
Self is something typically associated with positive
emotions, while ego is attributed to negative emotions.
Self is assured and quiet, while ego is loud and self-
important.
Self-respect can be an extension of your ego or a
priceless virtue.
