- 3. Back Cover The digipak unfolds into three panes. The middle one is the back cover of the CD. This pane features a faded image of the band in the background, over which the song list is placed. The layout seems quite squashed as the songs are listed as sentences with no timings shown. The back cover also contains information about the record label which the band are signed to – a minor American company called ‘Hopeless’. This gives an indication as to what genre the band’s music is, as ‘Hopeless’ often signs artists who perform pop-punk music. The record label is represented on the album by its logo being shown. Additionally, there is barcode, for store purposes, and some production information shown which usually lists some of the people or studios who have produced the album.
- 4. Spine The spine shows the name of the band; ‘We Are The In Crowd’ which is in bold to stand out from the rest of the information. This is relevant concerning how CDs are stored by buyers; the name of the band stands out so that the buyer can select the CD out of many others with less difficulty. Other information is also shown, such as the title of the album, ‘Best Intentions’ – so that the buyer can differentiate this album from others albums that they own by the same artist. The reference number or item/product number is also shown which is useful when the CD is stocked in a shop. The logo of the record label is featured to represent the company, which also encourages buyers who listen to other bands signed by the same record label by giving an indication of the genre of the band’s music.
- 5. Inside Panes The digipak unfolds into three panes. The first paragraph of pane one lists the acknowledgements of the band towards those who have helped and supported them throughout the production of the album. The last paragraph lists the writers of each of the songs and those who have produced the songs in a studio. The next five paragraphs are each statements made by all the band members concerning their experiences whilst writing for and recording this album and their gratitude towards everyone who helped them. This makes the album seem more personal and lends an added quality to the product for the buyer. Furthermore, the members also thank their fans for their support which should further please the buyer and confirms their decision to purchase the digipak.
- 6. Inside Panes Also, inside of the digipak the CD itself is stored along with a complimentary booklet. The CD, stored in the last pane, shows the band’s logo and the name of album so that the buyer can identify the CD when it is out of the case. The booklet, stored inside the first pane, shows the lyrics of each of the songs and images of the band, similar to those featured on the front cover of the album, as is the colour scheme for the inside panes.
