The Advantages of using DIGIT 3001 The application of the new DIGIT 3001 to POWERGEN batterychargers offers considerable advantages: - It allows to have the Wa and WoWa version in one singlegearcase. - It is suitable for any battery from 24 to 96V. - It optimizes charging cycles. - It allows to recharge only the power which has been actually used. - It increases the average battery life. - It reduces normal maintenance costs. - Energy saving. - Monitor and supervision of the correct microprocessoroperation via an external supervising circuit (Watchdog).
The new electronic control DIGIT 3001 has been designed to ful fil the experts’ highest requirements (new and advanced battery controls have been introduced) ,maintaining all the reliability and versatility characteristics which are a distinctive mark of our production. The electronic circuit has been tested in laboratory in order to achieve the conformity to the directive regarding electromagnetic compatibility and later CE certification. The microprocessor control via digital gear case is able to optimize the charging cycles of any type of battery. It is supported by electronic components using S.M.D. technology, which assures the utmost safety of the electric contacts (thus avoiding cold welding and making it more insensitive to vibrations and indirect shocks) and also allows to have an extremely compact printed circuit. 1) DISPLAY READOUTS The display uses symbols which can be easily and immediately read in real time. Selecting the charging mode, “nor”will be shown on the display, thus allowing to read the following parameters: Charging current: “A.XXX” expressed in amps Battery voltage: “U.XXX” expressed in volts Total charging time: “T.XXX” expressed in minutes Charging time in timed charging cycle: “F.XXX” expressed in minutes Capacity delivered to the battery: “AH.“XXXX” expressed in ampere-hours. The value is shown in two sub sequent screen pages. Screen page “XXXX” is shown automatically after 1 second.
2) SETTINGS The gear case may be either used for operation with decreasing charge – Wa version with 9-10 hours charging time, or for operation with decreasing charge – Wo-Wa version with 7-8 hours charging time in compliance with DIN 41774 standard. The charge may be disconnected: in a timed manner, once 2.4V/cell are reached. Time can be set from 0 to 600 minutes. due to maximum time (settable from 0 to 960 minutes) due to minimum current (settable from 4.4 to 40.4 A) due to reintegration of set ampere-hours Once the normal charging cycle has been performed, the display will show “End” and store the data of the last 10 charging cycles, showing for each of them: Charging current: “A.XXX” expressed in amps (final) Battery voltage: “U.XXX” expressed in volts (final) Total charging time: “T.XXX” expressed in minutes Capacity delivered to the battery: “AH “XXXX” expressed in ampere-hours .The value is shown in two subsequent screen pages. Screen page “XXXX” is shown automatically after 1 second. The battery equalization function provides for 48 charging cycles lasting 60 minutes. For each of them, 5 minutes of charge are alternated to 55 minutes of cycle interruption. In particular, 55 minutes OFF plus 5 minutes ON.
During the normal charging cycle, the user can recall the equalization function at any time by pressing the right-hand button “EQQ”. Once this function has been recalled, relevant led lights reminding the user of the “reserved” function. The reservation may be removed by pressing the same button again. If the equalized charge is set, when the normal charging cycle is completed “EQU” will be shown on the display, thus allowing to read the following parameters in real time: Charging current “A.XXX” expressed in amps Battery voltage “U.XXX” expressed in volts Total amount of hours in equalized charge “C.XXX” expressed in hours. The readout menu may be scrolled via the middle “A/V” button. After 10 seconds of buttons inactivity, the display will show “EQU” message again. The charging cycle start is always delayed by 5 seconds compared with the connection of mains supply and ofbattery. Once the charging cycle has started, the operation may be manually interrupted by pressing the left-hand button and restarted in the same way. The cycle will resume from where it stopped. When the cycle is interrupted, “STOP” will be shown on the display. In case of power failures during the operation of the charging cycle, the control card will behave in the same way as in the event of a manual interruption.
In case of battery disconnection during the charging cycle, this will be interrupted and “bdIS” will be shown on the display. As soon as the battery is reconnected, the cycle will resume its operation from the start, with time set to zero. If the battery cable is disconnected when the cycle has finished or has not yet started, “Umin” will be shown on the display. In case the battery voltage is lower than the minimum or higher than the maximum set value. The battery charger do not start and alarm messages “UMin” and “UMAH” will be displayed. At the end of the normal charging cycle, END (charge end) will be shown on the display. In case the basic parameters of the card are altered due to any reason, the control card allows to recall the setting of the default values. When the battery is too flat or sulphated (low current ˆhigh voltage), the gear case inhibits all the charging controls and keeps the battery charged for a maximum time of 12 hours set by the factory (settable time). Such inhibition occurs on charging commencement if the current is lower than 1/4 (setable) of the maximum current that can be delivered by the battery charger and if the voltage is higher than 2,4 V/cell.
