Collaboration
Example1:
Thisshowsthat a group of people are workingoncomponentsof anIT strategicplan (inmy currentrole
inUConn IT) inGoogle Docs. I have workedonshareddocumentsinreal time withavarietyof people in
thislist. There are 15 people participatinginthisspecificexercise, asindicated bythe circlesbelow.
Thisexample showsthe abilitytocreate andmanage documentsandan overall familiaritywithGoogle
apps. Thisparticularexample ismyUConn Gmail account.
I regularlyutilize Google hangoutsaswell. Ihave pastedanexample (albeit canned) of aconversation
belowaswell asbrief Google+Thread. I have alsopasted,apicture of a videohangoutIwas
participatingin. These bothshowadditionalproficiencyinonlinecollaborationtoolssuchasvideoand
chat.
Digital Age Work and learning skills
All of these technologiessupportthe ISTEStandardsfor Teachersall itemsof Standard3 as they
specificallydemonstrate fluencywithinaplatformbutalsoacross collaborative concepts.
Communication
Example1
Thisscreenshotof myTwitterfrontpage showsthat I leverage thatmediumforinformation
consumptionaswell as for, more selectively, sharingideasorsolicitinginformation. Thisrequiredme to
take advantage of my social networkcontacts, understandingof social networksocial norms, social
networkutilization. The ITSEStandardsfor Teachers Standard3 and Standard5 itemA. Standard 5 is
metas social medianetworkingcanbe effectivelyleveragedtodisseminate informationand solicit
feedback. ItalsomeetsITSEStandard 4 as it indicatesmyunderstandingof social mediabehavioral
expectations.
Example2
Thisscreenshotshowsthe websiteforthe InformationSecurityOffice,designedtodisseminate
informationtoa broadercommunity. Thissite isareference for mostthingssecurityspecificandis
updatedregularly. Thisshowsbasicwebcreationandeditingskills. Iconsiderthe skillsfairlybasic
because the site ismanagedinWordpress, whichisa commonlyusedCMSdesignedtohave content
easilyaddedinto standardizedtemplates.
Thisalignsmostcloselywiththe ISTEStandardsfor CoachesStandard 3 ItemB,Standard 4 and Standard
5 itemA for verysimilarreasonsinexample 1.
Information Resources
Example 1
UtilizingGoogle IsearchedforAlgebraVideoLessons:

I was presentedwiththe followingresults:
I thenviewedacouple of initial hitsanddeterminedthatthe KhanAcademyappearedtobe a reputable
and contentrichsite:
The goal of showingthissequence issimplytoshow google search capabilities, the abilitytodistinguish
site qualityandthe capabilitytofindandutilize applicable data.
Thisexample mostcloselyalignswithISTEstandardsforTeachersStandard3 ItemA and D and
illustratescapabilitieswithsearchengineconceptsandsearch collections.
Ethics Challenge
It’simportantfor students/learnerstounderstandappropriate usesfortechnology,especially
those technologiesthatcanhave potential impacttothemselvesandothers. Youngpeoplehave a
reducedconcernregardingtheirownpersonal privacyandoftenexpose partsof theirownpersonal
livestothe publicthattheywouldpotentiallypreferbe private. Peopleoftendon’trealizethatthe data
theypost, picturesforexample, cancontaindatathat can enable peopletotrack them, infer
informationaboutwhereaboutsorharassthem. Thisexposure enablesothers,potentiallyother
students,toleverage thatdatato engage instalkingorharassmentactivities.
Digital Cheating
As an educatorthe potential forstudentplagiarismis likelyhigh, howeverthere are plagiarism
websitesdesignedtoallowforthe submissionandreview of documents. Itisimportantto be able to
knowthe studentscapabilitiesorwritingstylesufficientlytoidentifylikelyplagiarismorcheating.
An educatorhasa responsibilitytomake sure studentsunderstandthe longtermrisksof
misusingtechnology. It’slikelythatmoststudentsdon’trealize that technologymisuse suchassocial
mediaposts,cheatingorcomputercrimescan impactthemas broadlyas college admissions,college
graduationandeveneventuallyfutureemployment. The responsibilityof teachingstudentsaboutthe
positive andnegativeaspectsof the Internetandthe resourcesavailablelieswithanyone thatserves
and an educator,theirpeers,teachersandparents.
