History of Dinosaurs Dinosaur is greek for “terrible lizard” 3 different times dinosaurs were present: 1) Triassic (251-200 million years ago) Contained small and quick meat-eaters. 2) Jurassic (200-145 million years ago) New types of dinosaurs, mammals, and reptiles started to come about. 3) Cretaceous (145-65 million years ago) Plants and insects came about Contained Dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes. - 4. History of Dinosaurs Cont. Dinosaurs are classified as reptiles. They are known to be cold-blooded, but some evidence has been discovered that they may have been warm-blooded due to the fact that their metabolism rates are comparable to those of mammals and birds. Quit
- 5. Dinosaur Types There are three types of dinosaurs: 1) Carnivore – only eat meat. Ex) Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex 2) Herbivore – only eat plants. Ex) Brachiosaurus and Triceratops 3) Omnivore – eat both meat and plants. Ex) Gallimimus and Ornithomimus Quit

- 10. Sizes Dinosaurs range from many different sizes. The smallest is close to the size of a chicken. The largest are over 100 feet tall! Quit
- 11. Fossils Dinosaurs reproduced by laying eggs. People discovered dinosaurs by siting some of these possible dinosaur egg fragments. A Protoceratops, a horned dino egg, has been discovered in Mongolia and France. Fragments of presumed eggs have also been discovered in Brazil, Portugal, Tanzania, and the U.S. states of Colorado, Montana, and Utah, along with Alberta in Canada and also in the Gobi Desert. Quit
