Exploring the topic of Diversity within the field of Education through Teachers, Students and the Long Island community. Encouraging the discussion of diversity in schools and within the community in order to create an awareness and understanding of the changing American society.
Network with teachers within the same district and also other districts. Share and post lesson examples on diversity through a wiki on Diversity. Discuss and post information on diverse learning styles and environments. Teaching effective communication with a diverse population.  http://www.teachersagainstprejudice.org/
Explore in school events celebrating diversity. Create a calendar of event, when the topic of diversity could be discussed through the school year and also inform the community. Get student involvement.  Examples of creative written work, audio, video and other means of expression. Network between schools.
Create a blog where member of the community can post and discuss Long Island events dealing with diversity. Opportunity to communicate with a diverse population.
Create Diversity website. Create a blog on diversity. Have samples of lesson plans about diversity. Have samples of works by students, teachers, or community members reflecting a recent cultural celebration in schools on Long Island School.  Ex. Hispanic Heritage, Black History, Foreign Language Week, etc.
