1. This is the masthead of my magazine double page spread; I used
the same shade of red I had used on my magazine front cover as I
decided I might as well contribute to the overall colour scheme. I
also used the Arcade Interlaced font as I thought it was visually
attractive and suited my magazine well. As this font was already
on the Photoshop programme I just had to insert the text, alter
the colour then just scale it to a size I was happy with and then
place it at the top of the page. I felt that my masthead looked
professional; however it could have been edited to look more
interesting and appealing.
2. I took this photograph of Jack Rogers in the photography studio
at Eccles College, and then I uploaded the file onto Photoshop so
I could begin editing it. I decided that I would continue with the
on-going theme of noir styled photographs, using the saturation
brush tool I made the image entirely black and white. However I
decided to re-insert the colour back into Jacks hat, much like I did
on my magazine front cover. I did this as I felt made the
photograph look more complex and not as bleak. The specific red
shade I had been using for my fonts was originally taken from this
image of Jack’s hat using the eyedropper tool. I felt that the
contrast between colour and black/white creates a
“juxtaposition”.
3. I decided that I would keep the background of my magazine
black. Even though this isn’t as visually attractive compared to
other more interesting magazine backgrounds I felt it was
appropriate as It made all my text much easy to read as it stood
out a lot more. If I had more time on this project I would have
attempted to make a more high quality background.
4. This is the second photograph of Jack Rogers I used for my
magazine double spread. I again used the same techniques and
effects to create the noir sort of effect for my photograph. I then
cropped off any unwanted parts of the image to place Jack in the
centre of the photograph. I felt this was the better photo out of the
two on the double page spread as it does look as though it has
been taken for a serious photo shoot. I also like the fact that Jack
uses the microphone as a prop In the photo, as I feel it is a nice
touch.
5. As I didn’t have enough text from my interview with jack to fill up
my magazine double page spread, I decided I would place in a
quote so there wasn’t as much dead space. I used the same font
and colour shade as the rest of my text however I increased the
scale up to 48. This means the quote is one of the first things on my
double page spread you see, hopefully after reading this some of
the readers would be interested enough to read the whole article.
This is the method professional magazines use to get new readers.
6. I created the dark grey shapes behind the majority of my text so
people could easily distinguish the columns from each other. I
chose the dark grey colour as its still matches the current colour
scheme however it doesn’t different too much as to be really
noticeable. I also thought that the grey boxes were a nice touch
not making my double page spread as boring.
Overall I am happy with my double page spread I believe I
completed the task to a good grade standard, however I feel that
given more time I could have completed it to a better ability. I am
happy with the image construction, the texture is smooth
throughout my double page spread, and the tone of my text is
vibrant to gain people’s attention and making it visually attractive.
Jack is a symbol for the music the magazine is based around as he
represents the genre of music being “DJ Rogers”.
