DYNAMIC & STATIVE VERBS
(with progressive tenses)
DYNAMIC VERBS
Dynamic verbs have to be with actions or
movement: run, jump, study, eat, sleep, ...
We can use them with all continuous tenses (pres.
cont., past cont., fut. cont.):
•They run in the park everyday
•They are running in the park
•They will be running in the park at 8:00
STATIVE VERBS
Stative verbs describe a state of mind or likes:
know, remember, understand, like, love, hate,
prefer, ...
We can´t use stative verbs with continuous tenses:
•Sue doesn´t understand the Maths problem
•Sue isn´t understanding the Maths problem
•Sue won´t be understanding the Maths problem
