Flood disasters
In our country, sudden and excessive rainfalls occasionally cause floods. As a result of these
disasters, there are a few deaths.
Ayancık
Future Disaster Risk of Türkiye
Unfortunately, the same disaster risks will continue to exist for our country in the future…
Ayancık
We are grateful for your help.
This map shows us the regions where disasters occur in our country and the types
of disasters.
Buildings in Türkiye
In rural areas, low-income and middle-income people
generally prefer one or two-story brick masonry systems.
Ayancık
In cities, social housing built by our Ministry's Mass Housing
Administration (TOKİ) is sold at low prices.
Buildings in Türkiye
Ayancık
These houses are generally built with high-rise and tunnel formwork systems. However, in recent
years, TOKİ has decided to use horizontal architecture. For this reason, new constructions are now
building with 5-6-story column-beam systems.

The same building systems are also popular for 20 floors.
Codes and regulatories in Türkiye
Ayancık
What kind of issues does your country face regarding building codes and building
regulatory system, such as buildings without building permission, non-compliant
designs, poor quality of materials, quality controls of construction work or others?
In our country, no building can be built without the approval of the relevant
municipality.
This approval should be documented with a building permit in planned areas.
However, sometimes construction can be done without the permission of the
municipality.
Ayancık
What kind of issues does your country face regarding building codes and building
regulatory system, such as buildings without building permission, non-compliant
designs, poor quality of materials, quality controls of construction work or others?
If the municipality has a large population and insufficient staff, these illegal
constructions cannot be noticed for a long time.
Afterwards, these structures are not demolished under the pretext of budget
insufficiency etc.
There is no deficiency due to the legislation regarding the preparation, examination,
material quality and inspections of the projects of the newly built buildings.
Codes and regulatories in Türkiye
Ayancık
The maximum building usage area
and maximum floor height of the
existing parcel are determined by
the municipality.
The land owner makes an
agreement with a contractor and
the transactions are carried out by
the contractor.
A soil survey is conducted and a
report is prepared.

Architectural, static and installation
projects are drawn.
The municipality approves projects
and permits construction.
Buildings are inspected by
independent building inspection
companies.
