Ecotourism is defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and supports local communities. There are five main principles of ecotourism: appreciating nature and culture, education, small group tours, minimizing impacts, and creating economic benefits for local communities. Both ecotourism and sustainable tourism aim to minimize environmental and social impacts while providing unique experiences, but ecotourism focuses on smaller, nature-based tours to remote areas that often involve physical activity. Ecotourism is a type of sustainable tourism that can effectively manage the global tourism industry if implemented properly in low-income countries through environmental conservation and local economic support.
