1 Objective
Customer raised concerned that the EDGE throughput be increased as UMTS coverage not
uniform and user complaintwere locked when they experienced lowthroughput compared to
their 3G experience.
Major task was to enhance the user perception & related KPIs.
Multipletrials and parametric tuningwas done step by step for enhancement.
Trial on XX City, were most of the complaints and KPIs low.
2 Description & Related Parameters
Below mentioned steps were taken to improve the PS related KPI’s and also parameters to
counter any degradation incurred on CS related KPIs.

Activity Description
PD Alignment
Defined PDCH and dynamic PDCHs on BCCH and DCS TRX with following Dynamic
PDCH on next TS of TRX 1. To enhance multi-TS usage increasing Throughput per
user.
Support High
Multislot Class
High Multi-slot class function enables a single MS to be allocated with a maximum of
five timeslots on the uplink or downlink, thus improving the uplink or downlink
throughput ofa single MS. (max 5TS DL per User)
Timer of
Releasing Abis
TS
Interval between detection of the secondary links being in idle state and releasing of the
secondary links. After all the TBFs on the channel are released, the BSC starts the timer
when channels are idle instead of immediately releases secondary links. Value changed
from 15 to 5 by shortening value TBF must apply for secondary links based on the
actual condition when adjusting the coding scheme.

improves the uplink service rate.

Enable NACCSPT -The NACC enables the network to notify the MS of the system
information about the neighboring cell in advance.This increases the PS service access
speed and shortens the PS service interruption duration during cell reselection

This working was applied on highly congested and highly utilized PS traffic area.

OSS KPIs and customer complaint tracker
6 Results
 LLC DL-Edge User Throughput has improved 15%: from 106 kbps to 122
kbps.
 DL Edge Throughput per cell has improved 8% from 159kbps to 172kbps
 DL Rx Quality(0-3) has significantly improved from 90% to 92 %, (better than
before trial)
 PDCH Application Failures (due to PD Threshold) are Significant reduced by
96%;
 PBGT HO share: improved from 73% to 75.5%
 HSR Improved from 97 % to 97.85%;
