The creation of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution
Company Limited (MSEDCL) on June 06, 2005 is the result of
power sector reforms and restructuring in Maharashtra (India)
which is the focal point of the Power Sector, responsible for
planning and managing the sector through its transmission,
distribution and supply of electricity.
MSEDCL will be professionally managed utility supplying
reliable and cost-efficient electricity to every citizen of the state
through highly motivated employees and state of art technologies,
providing an economic return to our owners and maintaining
leadership in the country.
6. Methodology
1. Planning & Design Load demand assessment and feasibility
study.
2. Electrical Equipment Installation Erection of 33 kV
incoming and 11 kV outgoing switchgear.
3. Protection & Control System Installation of CTs (Current
Transformers) and PTs (Potential Transformers).
4. Earthing & Lightning Protection Laying of earthing grid and
installation of earthing.
5. Cabling & Testing Laying and termination of power and
control.

7. 33/11kV SUBSTATION
33 kV line is incoming line on the 33/11 kV sub station it is
further step down at 11 kV with the help of step-down
transformer at the sub-station. And transmit it with the 11 kV
feeder to the village or consumer.
8. POWER TRANSFORMER
Generator transformers are at
the top of the
5MVA transformer parts list,
followed by distribution
transformers. A generator 5
MVA 33/11kv transformer is
directly linked to the engine of
the power plant. Generally, a
5MVA transformer current
score has a power level that
exceeds 1000 MVA.
9. VACCUM CIRCUIT BREAKER
A vacuum circuit breaker is a
type of breaker that employs
a vacuum as the medium for
extinguishing arcs. The
permanently sealed vacuum
interrupter of this circuit
breaker houses both the
fixed and movable contacts.
The separation of contacts
within a high vacuum
ensures the extinction of the
arc.
10. ISOLATOR
In electrical power systems,
an isolator is a type
of switchgear device which is
mainly used for ensuring that
the circuit is completely
disconnected from the source
of power supply. Since its
main function is to provide
isolation in the circuit, hence it
is termed as an isolator.
11. CURREN TRANSFORMER
A current transformer is an instrument
transformer that generates an
alternating current in the secondary
winding of the transformer. Because it is
connected in series with the circuit for
measuring various aspects of electric power,
this is also known as a series transformer.
Here, the secondary winding's current is
inversely correlated with the primary
winding's current. High voltage currents are
converted to low voltage currents using
these.
12. .A current transformer is a device that measures electric
current in a power system by transforming high current into a
smaller, more manageable value that can be safely measured.
13. POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
Potential transformers (PT) or
voltage transformers
are instrument transformers
used for voltage measurements.
They are connected in parallel to
the line and operates under the
same principle of power
transformers. They cannot be
used used to supply raw power
to the loads.
14. LIGHTENING ARRESTER
The lightning arrestor, known as
a lightning isolator, comes with an
air gap between the electrical wire
and ground used on electrical
power transmission and
telecommunication systems for
protection insulation and
conductors of a system through
the effect of lightning.
15. CAPACITOR BANK
A capacitor bank is a group of several
capacitors of the same rating that are
connected in series or parallel to store
electrical energy in an electric
power system. Capacitors are devices
that can store electric charge by creating
an electric field between two metal
plates separated by an insulating
material. Capacitor banks are used for
various purposes, such as power factor
correction, voltage regulation, harmonic
filtering, and transient suppression.
16. EARTHING SYSTEM
Earthing is the instantaneous
discharge of electrical energy by
passing charges directly to the
earth using a low-resistance
cable. Different types of the
earth are used to link the
metallic parts of electrical
appliances or installations to the
earth to prevent or lessen the
risk of electrocution.
17. BUSBARS
A busbar is a metallic bar
in a switchgear
panel used to carry
electric power from
incoming feeders and
distributes to the
outgoing feeders. In
simple terms, busbar is a
electrical junction where
incoming and outgoing
currents exchange.
18. CONTROL AND RELAY PANEL
The Control and Relay panel is designed
for indoor application with controlling
and protecting the transformer and
outdoor VCB. The panel comes with
fault indication and alarm. Johns Electric

19. BATTERY BANK AND CHARGER
The battery bank provides the
DC supply to load only in case
the Battery charger breaks
down or the AC supply to
the battery charger breaks
down. So in normal conditions,
it is the charger that supplies
DC power to protection,
communication,
control, and measurement
devices running in the
Electrical substation
20. METERS AND MEASURING INSTRUMENTS
An energy meter is a device
used for measuring the
amount of electrical energy
consumed by a load over a
certain period of time. This
device is essential for
recording
the electricity usages so that
consumers can monitor and
change the energy
consumption patterns to
reduce energy consumption
and hence the bill amount.
21. • I am able to check the mechanical inspection.
• I am able to draw a single line diagram for any substation.
• I am able to identify the any types of conductors (for ex. Disc, suspension, or pin
etc.)
• I am able to identify the parts of transformer for any types of transformers (for ex.
Power or distribution transformers).
• I am able to take a reading for any kwh meter or any Incomer.
• I am able to identify the CT and PT.
• I am able to ON or OFF any feeder and their process:
i) We had closed the VCB (breaker).
ii) We had to close the outdoing Isolator.
ii) We had closed the Incoming Isolator.
iii) We had to take the proper earthing to incoming Isolator.
• I am able to use megger for checking CT PT and VCB for they are in good
condition or bad condition.
• I am able to reset Relay (numerical and master relay) and I able to identify
problems on
line for ex. single line to ground fault (SLGF), double line to ground fault (DLGF),
line to line fault (LLF) and three-phase to ground fault (LLLGF).

4-week industrial training at Maharashtra State Electricity
Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is the best thing I have
done in this industrial training. I have learnt lots of things from this
training. This training helped me to develop practical skills.
I could understand more about the definition of engineer which
helped me to prepare myself to become a good engineer in future. I
got practical application of theory in the company.
The training helped me to clear concepts. I got motivated to
pursuit for knowledge of electrical engineering due to this training.
Overall, my internship at Maharashtra State Electricity
Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has been successful.
