This document discusses generator sizing and induction motor starting analysis. It presents a 6-step method for sizing emergency generators considering load estimation, transient analysis, and motor starting capability. The steps include segregating loads, calculating effective load, checking overloading capacity, step loading capacity, transient voltage dip analysis, and determining the final generator rating. The document also analyzes the dynamic behavior of generators and motors during direct online starting of large induction motors fed by stand-alone generator sets. It investigates voltage dips and use of software to simulate transients and ensure generator capability to start motors within voltage limits. A case study is presented to demonstrate simulation of a 110kW firewater pump motor start using ETAP software.
