EMPATHY & DEFINE
Empathy Map & Problem Statement
SAY
• Schooling provides structure, discipline and
the basic knowledge on which to build
interests
• Some form of education, no matter how
minimal and one’s mindset are required to be
creative/innovative
• Without any form of education, one would
need to work extra hard to fit into society
• Continue in education only if it connects you
with your interest in the long-run
SAY cont’d
• Survival is inherent in human nature
• In surviving, people might find themselves
engaged in activities that they would not
normally do
• I was confident about finding a job after school as
I graduated from a good degree with excellent
grades
• Interviews test skills and applied knowledge and
not what is taught in schools
• Job interviews are situational; they look more at
context than content
SAY cont’d
• Education has numerous facets: interacting with
people in the society is a form of education
• I am very good at my job and a high-flyer
• I am excited about solving problems
• I am not fascinated about my current job because it
doesn’t connect me with what I want to do
• I am not entirely sure what my talents are
• I am not at the right place considering where I hope to
be in the future
• Work could be fun or stressful depending on where
you find yourself and what you find yourself doing
SAY cont’d
• If you are proactive, you would enjoy working,
if you are reactive, you might not enjoy it
• I want to change the world as much as I want
to make money
• I am just going with the flow at the moment
• I am not sure what my unique selling point is
• I am not sure what skills I have got that people
would pay me for
THINK
• He thinks schooling is not the only path to
success and self-fulfilment but it is important
• Thinks basic education equips one with
survival skills
• Thinks he should be more than just an
employee
• Thinks one can understand the world better
by getting a grip on some form of education
THINK cont’d
• Doing a particular job for years can get boring,
tiring and monotonous
• Some sort of work change is essential
• Schooling is necessary but is too theoretical
and less practical
• Schooling is great but should be more
technical and exciting
FEEL
• Doesn’t see education as a definite means to a
fantastic end- it may or may not happen
• Not entirely satisfied with where he is at the
moment
• Feels education is necessary up to point
• Wants to be more creative/innovative
• Most people just need minimal education to
fuel their creative minds
FEEL cont’d.
• Education is not a do or die affair
• The school to work transition doesn’t work for
everyone
• Everyone should do what works for them
concerning schooling and working
DO
• Looked happy with his degree and grades and
how far he has come
• Had a big smile when he spoke about solving
problems and making money
• Looked downcast when he realized he was not
sure what people would pay him for
• Was deep in thoughts when asked what his
talents were
• Looked indifferent when he spoke about his
current job
PROBLEM STATEMENT
• A young, passionate, enterprising male with
excellent grades from a first degree and in a
well-paid job who NEEDS to change careers
BECAUSE he wants to be more useful to
society.
