Engineering Design
The process of devising a system, component,
or process to meet desired needs.

It is a decision-making process, in which the
basic science and mathematics and
engineering sciences are applied to convert
resources optimally to meet a stated
objective.

• Functional Decomposition or Block Diagram
• Gantt Chart
• Project Manager
Functional Decomposition or Block
             Diagram
 Breaking the system down into its functional part to
 understand how this parts operate with respect to
 the whole.
Gantt Chart
Type of bar chart that illustrates project schedule.
Project Manager
A person that balances the cost, schedule and
performance.

    Specification
Defining a Project
1. Is the problem important?

2. Is the problem solvable?
Specifications
• Outline as precisely as possible at a given
  stage of the project what you are supposed to
  do.

• It characterizes what you produced and how
  to use it.

• Specifications are a form of contract.
A Good Specification
• State exactly what you are going to do, not
  how you are going to do it.

• You need to develop a clear mental image of
  what you are designing.
Pointers in Design Specification
• Constraints
    External factors that will limit your exploration space.


• Standards
     Standards allow us to communicate complex
     constraints in a minimal number of words.

     Standards make sure our work is compatible with
     others.
