This course takes an in-depth look at the interaction between humans and their global environment.
Assignments will be done independently and in groups. Research projects will result in written papers and
classroom presentations. Guest lecturers, experts in various disciplines, will provide the class with first a
hand perspective on environmental concerns.

Topics covered are:

      Global Warming                                        Energy Production/Use
      World Food Supply                                     Human Population
      Water Resources                                       Waste Management
      Key Theories in Environmental Science                 Economics, Ethics and Laws
      Solutions for Environmental Problems                  Exploration of a Sustainable Future
      Land Management                                       Nature Conservation

Grading:

Your grade will be based on:

      Homework & Class Participation - 20%
      Quizzes - 20%
      Midterm Project - 30%
      Final Project - 30%

Papers for research projects will be graded according to how well they are written, their depth of research
and their ability to demonstrate critical thinking.
Unexcused late assignments will receive a 10 point reduction per day late.
Term grades will be based on the percentage of total possible points earned. The letter grades will
correspond to the Student Handbook.

Any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty on a quiz, test, or essay, or lies to a teacher
about class assignments, will receive no credit on the assignment. In addition, the case will be referred to
the Academic Dean, the Dean of Students and the Discipline Committee for consideration of further
disciplinary action. The Discipline Committee may, in the interest of necessary academic skill
development, recommend that the student rework the same essay for a maximum of 50% credit. Please
review the Academic Honesty section in the Student-Parent Handbook for more details.
