1. INTRODUCTION
Ernest Hemingway (July 21, 1899, Oak Park, Illionis).
American writer and journalist.
One of the main novelists and storytellers of the 20th century.
- Pulitzer Prize (1953) - The old Man and the Sea
- Nobel Prize for Literature for his complete work (1954)
2. BIOGRAPHY
Hemingway Family
When he was a Child, his mother dressed him as
a girls.
He took part of the
War World I as an
ambulance driver on
the Italian front where
he was seriously
injured.
1920 - Hadley
Richardson.
1927 - Pauline
Pfeiffer.
1940 - Martha
Gellhorn.
1946 - Mary
Walsch.
He loved Spain and its culture.
He returned in 1937 during the Civil War as a war correspondent
and opted for the Republican side.
He settled in Cuba, near Havana during the decade of 1940 and 1950.
The novel that gave him fame was
“The Sun Also Rises” (Fiesta in
spanish) (1926).
He committed suicide with a shotgun at
his residence in Ketchum on July 2, 1961.

Nature is understood as the place where men are without women. Men
fish, hunt, and find redemption in nature.
Fiedler believes that Hemingway reserves the theme of American
"dark woman" and bad, as opposed to "clear woman" and good.
Robert Scholes recognises that in Hemingway's earliest stories, like “A Very
Short Story" the man is as a favorable figure, whereas the woman appears as an
unfavorable figure.
Feminist critics attacked Hemingway as "public enemy number one,"
Some critics have characterized Hemingway's work as misogynist and
homophobic.
“Emasculation is the result of a generation of wounded soldiers; and a
generation in which women, like Brett, gained emancipation.” (Fiedler)
The theme of death pervades Hemingway's work.
Baker believes that Hemingway's work emphasizes the "natural"
against the "unnatural."
