The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films
Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the creation of the
horror genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts at horror movies, it certainly
shaped the genre into what it is today and made it accessible to global audiences. The appearance
of horror movies happens in cycles with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears,
delivers thrills to the audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are
made, or original films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are produced.
Eventually, the market becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. As the 1980s came to a close, the
American horror filmseemed locked into an endless loop of formulaic... Show more content on

Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie industry in hopes of
collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romeros Night of the Living Dead was made in 2004, in
2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the
remake of Hitchcock s Psycho and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in
2017. Hantke calls this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some
of these films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to the loss of
originality and the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the basis of every successful
horror film. The next step for the challenged horror industry was the process of
transnationalization searching for inspiration outside familiar borders, more specifically turning
to East Asia. The initial phase of J horror s rising popularity in the United States, for example,
was largely driven by a search, on the part of hardcore fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of
horror film. (Hantke 12) However, Hantke states that this is not an isolated phenomenon, since
Hollywood has always thrived

Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, the author of Oliver Twist. Charles Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 in
Landport, England, and then died on June 9th, 1870 in Kent, England. In his 58 years of life he
made a collection of books that are still famous today; although it was not until 1836 that he
started to come to fame when he published The Pickwick Papers. One of the many books he
published was Oliver Twist and this story was one that he related too, because like this story
Dickens had little education as a child and had to work as a child after his father was thrown into
prison; however like the story goes he did not give up and made the most out of the life that he
had ( Life of Charles Dickens). The book Oliver Twist is a story about a young boy named Oliver
Twist. Oliver is an orphan that everyone sees as a nuisance that is too naive to ever be more
than just a hungry little boy. Unfortunately Oliver was abused from everyone that was older or in
a higher ranking position than him, however, this was not uncommon almost every poor person
was abused by the middle class or anyone that had more than an empty stomach to their name.
Just like the different types of classes that are present today in this book, they had the same four
classes then the upper class, middle class, working class, and the lower class; and each one of
these classes influenced the world differently. An example of the upper class in Oliver Twist is The
Board Watch, a group of old gentleman, that give

Covert Monitoring Of Private Communications
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the US Patriot Act granted was enacted
granting wide legal authority to the intelligence community as a defensive measure against future
terrorist attacks. Among those new powers, included in Article 215, is the right to obtain business
records, while imposing a gag order on the party holding those records. This law remains the
foundation upon which the current NSA phone metadata collection campaign is operated. In
October 2001, President Bush ordered the National Security Agency to commence covert
monitoring of private communications through the nation s telephone companies without the
requisite FISA warrants. The agency began surveilling the Internet for emails, financial data, and
voice messaging on belief that such metadata was not constitutionally protected. In effect, by
penetrating the Internet for text and the parallel Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for
voice, the NSA had gained access to much of the world s telecommunications. At the end of Bush
s term in 2008, Congress had enacted laws that not only retrospectively legalized these programs,
but also prepared the way for NSA surveillance to grow unchecked. Rather than restrain the agency,
President Obama oversaw the expansion of its operations 1.2Revelations of Government Overreach

Flowers And The Symbol Of Flowers
A symbol of purity, innocence or life, when connected to the motivation of a character, flowers
have the ability to demonstrate a character s emotions and behaviors in a way that describing a
character s physical and emotional appearance cannot. Vibrant flowers symbolize aspiration and
determination while a wilted or destroyed flowerrepresents a somber and heartbroken attitude
toward life. The motif of the flowersin Paul s Case and The Chrysanthemums represent the
progression of the characters hopeand dreams.
In the opening scene of Paul s Case, the author notes the vibrant, red carnation that Paul wears to
his disciplinary meeting and consequently the teacher s distaste of what they believe the flower
symbolizes referring to it as a, scandalous red carnation and how, his whole attitude was
symbolized by...his flippantly red carnation flower (Cather 114). A defiant student, shown by his
disrespect toward his teachers, Paul seems unfazed to the fact that he is in a disciplinary meeting
choosing to act indifferent to what his teachers say about him. He is arrogant consequently holding
himself to a higher status than his teachers thus causing him to feel entitled. The red carnation
symbolizes his idealistic view of society in which he had hopes and ... Show more content on

In both Paul s Case and The Chrysanthemums, the character s willpower and idealistic views of the
world shattered, causing them to come to terms with the harsh realities that coincide with the
dreams that they held for themselves. Though Paul and Elisa choose different paths after the
destruction of the flowers, both characters hopes and dreams are destroyed themselves as the now
have to navigate the harsh reality of life. Both authors chose to portray how, like a flower, people
are not impervious to life around them and when reality strikes, it has the ability to destroy a

Value By Suffering, Setting, And Dreams In John...
Value by Suffering, Setting, and Dreams
Possessions on your back and a dream in your head. Imagine living your day to day life without a
job or a home. Going from place to place, farm to farm, just looking for your next meal. Whether
you are able to put yourself in this place or not it will always have been the lives of George and
Lennie. Lennie s troublemaking actions, and George s controlling trai Their struggles and those of
people during the Great Depression are unfortunate, but are the fuel for Of Mice and Men s value.
This book holds value historically, because of its setting and the struggles presented because of it.
John Steinbeck uses thoroughly developed characters to thicken the plot of Of Mice and Men.
He uses distinct features and qualities to differentiate one character from the next. The
differences between characters is what creates several of the conflicts in the novella. Curley s
antagonistic character toward people of large stature causes tension between himself and
Lennie, instantly creating conflict. The conflicts in the plot are what makes Of Mice and Men
entertaining. Lennie is not conscious of some of his actions. He does before he thinks.
Attention is directed toward him, drawing the reader s attention in and making them want to
know how things will be taken care of. Lennie is talking to Curley s wife about how he likes to
pet soft things. She then mentions how soft her own hair is. Lennie instantly begins to pet her
hair. She wants him to stop, but Lennie gets scared and covers her mouth, and later breaking her
neck leading to death. Lennie s big fingers fell to stroking her hair. Don t you muss it up, she
said. Lennie said Oh that s nice, and he stroked harder. Oh that s nice. ... Lennie was in a panic.
His face was contorted. She screamed then, and Lennie s other hand closed over her mouth and
nose (Steinbeck 45). Whether it is a serious fight, or a silly quarrel, Lennie s actions are
entertaining. Because of this, Lennie gets into trouble with Curley. Not only was Lennie s size a
problem for Curley, but his actions at have taken him deeper into trouble. Entertainment is often
fueled by conflict, as shown in Of Mice and Men.
The Great Depression was a

Cowans 2 NEWTONS LAWS OF MOTION Soccer is an International sport played all over the
world. Soccer consist of two teams trying to score a soccer ball into a goal on the opposing team
s side of the field without using their arms or hands. This sport is straightforward and simple, but
relates to physics in many ways. The basic movement of kicking a soccer ball requires force, the
release of kinetic energy, acceleration etc. I will be discussing the importance of Physics in soccer
and how it impacts the overall game. In the sport Soccer the players are kicking the soccer ball up
and down the field. When the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these
equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they
need to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to
score. Cowans 3
Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
This means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount
of strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass,
than soccer ball. When we apply force to the ball the same amount does come back, but because
of the unbalanced masses, we don t fill the push back, and this also means we have a greater
Inertia because of our leg s resistance. Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the
soccer ball has a very important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the
ball they transfer their momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object
times it s mass. Once your momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be
demonstrated when someone passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum
in the ball. You are controlling the momentum. THE MAGNUS EFFECT Everything above is all

Hypnotism In Cat Winter s The Cure For Dreaming
Hypnotism is a wonder that many of us do not understand. In Cat Winter s The Cure For
Dreaming, a young suffragist, Olivia Mead is hypnotized into seeing people s real image. Young
adult readers who like historical fiction/romance would love the dramatic and intensifying parts of
the book.
Olivia Mead, a 1900 suffragist from Oregon, has always been told that women are to be
housewifes and should not go after their dreams. She eventually decides to participate in a
suffragist movement and gets in trouble with her father. Her father decides to hire a hypnotist to
remove the rebellious thoughts from her mind so that she would not end up like her mother, who ran
off. The hypnotist, Henri Reverie, gives Olivia the ability to see who she can trust ... Show more

I liked how in one scene from the story she described the surroundings as, Wide expanses of
moonlit grass separated the east and west sides of the street. I also liked how the author used
vivid description to create imagery on the appearances of the characters such as when Henri was
described as being tired and weary immediately before he collapsed. One thing that I didn t like
about the book was how the figures in the book that were deemed untrustworthy were turned into
demons and other creatures. This did not seem very appropriate towards how the story was
presented. The author could have made them glow a different color or done something that wouldn
t have been so gruesome and terrible. This book was very inspirational and interesting to me despite
the demons and vampires.
The setting in the book sets the mood with Olivia Mead at different times and creates imagery
throughout the story. In one scene, it is dark outside and the street is only illuminated by a small
lamppost, and there is a sense of calmness because of how quiet it is. Olivia is sitting with Percy
on the carriage, and they both feel generally comforted and eased by the silence and begin talking
about the book Dracula. The conflict in the book between Olivia and her father eventually pushes
her to become a suffragist and move out. Readers will continue to read this intensifying book as the

Should Sports Men Be Paid Research Paper
Introduction
Sportsmen receive more money than sportswomen in 30% of sports. This has become a hotly
debated topic, with some arguing professional sportsmen and sportswomen should receive an equal
amount of money, and others arguing sportswomen do not deserve to be paid equally. Should
women in sport receive equal pay to their male counterparts?
Two arguments FOR
Sportswomen effectively perform the same job as sportsmen, and thus deserve to be paid the same.
Women train just as hard as men and exert just as much energy as men when in professional sport.
Sportswomen also face the same difficulty of competition as sportsmen in professional sport:
sportswomen compete against the best sportswomen, and sportsmen compete against sportsmen.
Women should be paid the same as men for winning a tournament. No, it is not easier to win the
women s tournament than the men s tournament: again, sportswomen compete against the best
sportswomen, and sportsmen compete against best sportsmen. When you reach the pinnacle of
your sport you deserve to get paid as richly as another individual who ... Show more content on

Just look at boxing: heavyweight boxers will always defeat welterweight boxers due to a
significant body size and strength advantage, but this doesn t mean welterweight boxers are
ignored. In fact, there is great interest in lower weight classes: the highest grossing boxing event in
history was a welterweight clash (between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao). Sports
entertainment is not only about the players that win the most, but players that offer different styles
of play. This concept can be applied to women s sports, an example being women s tennis, where
there is arguably more technical skill required to win matches. Women are capable of offering the
same level of entertainment as men, and thus should receive equal opportunities to be broadcasted

Comparison Of Good Country People And A Good Man Is Hard...
In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is
somewhat skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually
quite bad. In Good Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden
leg only for it to be stolen by a Bible salesman with a nasty habit of stealing from others on his
travels is an interesting development that defines Hulga s revelation in such that keeps the
reader satisfied. Such elements also show that no matter the person, however they are, can be
capable of evil and that not everyone by appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both
Pointer coming across as a well raised Christian and Hulga s mother always being so conscious

Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s...
Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress,
as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th
century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to
care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking
ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated
to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the
beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as
being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver
between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born
into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation
Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish
surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to
the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who
is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic
situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced
nurses, and doctors of profound

Japanese swords were arguably the most innovative and technologically advanced swords of their
time. Blades were often forged with different profiles, different blade thicknesses, and varying
amounts of grind. The steel used is known as tamahagane or jewel steel . Tamahagane is produced
from iron sand, a source of iron ore.
The smelting process used is different from the modern process of making steel. A clay vessel
about 1 m tall, 3.7 m long, and 1.2 m wide is constructed. This is known as a tatara. After the clay
tub has set, it is heated until dry. A charcoal fire is started. The fire will need to reach the correct

Samurai armour was a masterpiece of craftsmanship and a status symbol in Shogun Japan. These

Causes and Effects of Stress
According to HeartMath LLC, Stress is the basic cause of 60% of all human illness and disease .
Stress is a huge problem in the world today and effects many people. Everyone has different stress
triggers. For example, work, school, and children are all parts of life that many people struggle

serious problems like high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. In opposition to the

employers an estimated $200 billion per year in absenteeism, lower productivity, staff turnover,
workers compensation, medical insurance and other stress related expenses. If stress causes a
company money why are they continuing to overload employees with work. If they were looking
at the best interest of their company and their employees they would consider there life outside of
work and cut them some slack. Another effect in the workplace includes sleep deprivationfrom
staying up those long nights getting work done. Everyone needs sleep and if one does not get
enough it can affect how much they get done and the quality of their work.
In addition to stress in the workplace, finances is a huge stress factor for adults. This is not just
a small problem it affects many adults: 72 percent of adults admitted worrying about finances,
and 22 percent called this stress extreme (Addie, Kane). This is an ongoing issue in the world
and something that most if not all deal with in their lifetime. Keeping up with the bills and
paying for everyday expenses is very hard for some people to keep up with, especially those of
which who have a lower income. Adults in a lower income household are more likely to stress
about money and making ends meet. Along with income and finances, job loss and
unemployment are other sources of income for adults. When someone loses a job they no longer
have a source of income to pay for any expenses. They now have to worry

Imagine a life of not choosing how a person s day will go, being forced to life a certain way. Most
people have no idea what it feels like to be in prison, statistically only one out of every five people
will know what it s like to be in prison. Most of us imagine that prison life must be hard and
extremely difficult to endure, but because of the life long lasting debt to society many struggle
with adapting to life on the outside. Much of their time is structured, as they are told where they
can live, how they can interact with people, or even where the can work. Many lives of the
convicted are hindered because of the laws we have set in place for them.
The words sex offender immediately make you think of horrible memories of a crime show that
portraits sex offenders being a stranger who over and over again rapes women, or a pedophile
harming multiple children but in many cases this is not the case. Worldwide sexual offenders are
the most sought out to continue to offend even after sentencing. Investigated by the bureau of
justice statistics it showed that us of 9,700 tracked sex offenders only 5.3% of these were re
arrested for a sex offense. No matter what the offense was if you re convicted of all have to
register as a sex offender. This means you have to give out your name, address and photograph
because you could potentially offend again, but this registry can begin to cause more unintended

Film Analysis A
Moulin Rouge vs. The Great Gatsby
Apart from having the same director, Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby have an
astounding amount of similarities. They are both passionate love stories with similar characters in
coinciding roles. Although the two movies are set in the early 1900s and 1920s, they use modern
music to captivate the audience s interest. Baz Luhrmann has a knack for making colorful romantic
thrillers, and it certainly shows in Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. In the two movies there are

Since Moulin Rouge was a musical, Luhrmann decided to intertwine recent hits for the singing

Elton John, Madonna, and The Beatles. In The Great Gatsby, Luhrmann chose to allow a music

Garner State Park Research Paper
I first went to Garner State Park when I was thirteen years of age, I had never heard of that place
before, but my neighbors from across the street had invited me for the weekend. Ever since I
visited, it became one of my favorite places to attend to; I have yet to find someone who doesn t
find that park beautiful. I did a vast number of things which were all genuinely enjoyable;
everything was done at the perfect time from the early morning till sunset.
Generally, I arrive there at four in the morning, frogs croaking and fireflies dim in the distance, the
sun is still hours from rising but I am ready to take on the day. Sure enough the sun is out and we
get ready to go in; as I unload I can t help but look around and admire all the beauty that surrounds
me. Once we get settled in our camping space, I keep thinking about the challenge that I will take
on old Baldy . As my buddy and I get ready to head out we prepare so we have everything we need

Monologue Lady Macbeth
In the first half of the monologue, the line And live a coward in thine own esteem is key
(Macbeth Act I Sc 7 li. 48). In these words Lady Macbeth toes the line of acceptability. She is a
woman in 1040 Scotland calling her respected warrior husband a coward. This is, in fact, the most
important word in this line; it is openly insulting and emasculating to Macbeth. This humiliation
along with similar instances throughout the scene, ultimately provides the pressure for Macbeth to
murder King Duncan. This particular line stands out due to its use of the word coward , a stark
and highly offensive insult, particularly coming as it does from a woman to her husband at this
time. It provides key motivation for Macbeth s murder of the king. In the

Comparing Marriage In Marie De France s Sir Gawain And The...
The medieval literary genre of romance deals, according to Cooper, with the subject matter
concerning love or chivalry, or both. (10) In Romances love and marriage, two matters often
associated with each other, are treated as two entirely separate things. In Eliduc by Marie de
France and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, marriageis not done out of love, and keeping chivalric
codes and promises is paramount, even if it complicates extramarital affairs. In Marie de France s
lai Eliduc the titular character refrains from sleeping with his paramour because of his binding
contract with his wife. The marriage between Eliduc and GuildelГјec is treated like a contract rather
than a romantic relationship, but Eliduc, being an honourable knight, has to adhere to chivalric
codes and keeps his promise to stay loyal to GuildelГјec. Eliduc repeatedly doubts whether his
affair with Guilliadon is morally sound because of the implications it will have on his marriage.
An example of this occurs between lines 300 and 326. Eliduc realises that he has fallen in love

The setting of these scenes, the bed, has, according to Hahn, nothing to do with heterosexual
passion, but rather with the marriage contract between a woman and husband (224). Because
Gawain and the host s wife are not married, this setting is peculiar. However in the sixth verse of
part three of the poem the lady claims that if she could choose, she would rather be married to
Gawain than to her own husband. It is clear that from the host s wife s perspective, marriage and
love are two separate affairs. By repeatedly attempting to seduce Gawain, the lady challenges his
virtues, especially his courtesy and his chivalry. When Gawain refuses to kiss her, she accuses him
from being uncourteous. However by kissing her, Gawain is breaking his chivalric code and his
loyalty to his

Black Music Influence On American Culture
Represent Many parts of music popular culture was created or directly influenced by Black
music. Through the history of Black musical forms, each style represented a reality of the Black
community, whether regionally or based on the time period and politics. Before enslaved Africans
had the education to write their stories, they were told orally, often set to music. Highlighting the
genius of a people, when there were ideas and stories that were adverse to those in power, Black
peoplewere able to hide their true messages in a song. This tradition never changed, even with

From the political unrest of the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s Civil Rights, anti Vietnam protests, and
emergence of Black Power/Black Revolution ideals, soul music captured a variety of ideologies
and presented them to the masses. Music allowed for a mix of the ideologies to the mass of
Blacks across the nation, without having to formally declare one main ideology as the only one
they subscribed to. Soul then gave birth to funk which allowed more freedom in musical
expression while appropriating religious zeal and traditions and keeping critical political
discourse. Major funk artists like Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament/Funkadelics, and the ever
evolving James Brown provided pro Black messaging with holy ghost inspired concerts that were

Devaluation May Provide A Country With Devaluation
By looking at the conclusions that are drawn from the analysis of two different case studies, it can
be claimed that devaluation might succeed in achieving its main goals (increasing exports, boosting
the domestic economy and correct trade imbalances). Nevertheless, the negative consequences that
result from it (such as inflation, increasing unemployment, expensive imports) seem to overweight
the benefits that devaluation could provide a country with. This thesis will be discussed in the
essay firstly by giving a brief definition of devaluation, by addressing its characteristics and causes,
and by speculating on why devaluation might work theoretically. Then, it will use the two case
studies of a developed (China) and a developing (Bangladesh) countries to support the argument
that, overall, devaluation appears to be an unsuccessful economic strategy.
First, devaluation is commonly defined as a monetary policy tool that can be used by countries
having a fixed exchange rate and it consists of weakening artificially the domestic currency in
relation to the foreign ones (Begg et al. 2003). It is usually adopted by states that are facing
trade deficits (when imports exceed exports), and its major aim is to raise the prices of foreign
goods relative to home goods, in order to create excess demand for domestic production (Krugman
and Taylor 1976, 1). Several can be the causes for a fall in a country s export demand (such as high
inflation, changes in the foreign exchange

Ode To A Nightingale And John Keats Analysis
The verse of John Keats is loaded with individual investigations of profound and serious
emotions and reflections on life. His sonnets concern an assortment of topics, for example, time
everlasting and the progression of time and the want to discover perceptual quality amidst
constant change. From pursuing his verse I trust that these topics are unmistakably vital to
Keats, as they can every now and again be viewed as the establishments on which quite a bit of
his verse is based. Another essential part of Keats verse is his utilization of rich, dynamic
symbolism, regularly identified with nature, which is utilized to give noteworthy bits of
knowledge into life. In this exposition, I will talk about the above topics, and how I reacted to
Keats treatment of them. The sonnets on which I will base this paper are, Ode to a Nightingale ,
When I Have Fears That I May Cease To Be. While perusing some of his verse, it appears to me
that Keats was exceptionally worried about beautiful motivation and desire, and comparably, the
creative energy and it s quality as methods for getting away life. At the point when Keats depicts
his feelings of trepidation of death before he can completely express every one of that his mind
holds When I have fears that I may cease to be, before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,
before high pilГЁd books in character, hold like rich garners the full ripened grain . , this shows to
me an incredible wonderful aspiration inside Keats and a

For over a century, paleontologists have been collecting abundant dinosaur fossils from the
Western Interior of North America, with many of these fossils found in rocks dating back to the
final stages of the Cretaceous Period. Only recently, however, have we learned that most of these
dinosaurs existed on a lost continent today referred to as Laramidia . (Switek, 2010)
Two new species of horned dinosaurs have been found in the Grand Staircase Escalante National
Monument in Southern Utah. The bigger of the two new dinosaurs, Utahceratops gettyi, had a
skull 2.3 meter (around 7 feet) long. The first part of the name combines the origin of the find and

Characteristics Of Engineering Student
Being a great engineering student is the key to success. A world class engineering student is one
step ahead of that. Being a world class engineering student comes with many capabilities and
qualities. It is an overall image of a great engineering student. To be a world class engineering
student you must understand what it takes to succeed. Working well in a team is a great way to
start. If a student can work well in a team them will be very successful. Most engineers work in
teams to this very day. Not only will you work in a team once you become an engineer but having
a study group will help tremendously. It will allow like minded students to get together and work
hard to achieve the task at hand. A world class engineering student will realize their strengths and
weaknesses. They will hit their strong points and strive to improve their weaknesses. A world class
engineering student will also have great timemanagement skills. Students won t wait until the last
minute to do a project and risk a bad grade. They will start off working on bits and pieces at a
time. Time management is the key to success for many students. This along with all the other
qualities listed will make a world class engineering student. Goalsetting is a major part of being
successful. It gives you something to strive for. A world class engineering student would wantto
have long term and short term goals. This would give a student something to work hard for and
allow them to see progress. The would know exactly what to have set for themselves. The goals
would be realistic and challenging that would push them further and to have a positive affect on
them. I set goals for myself but overall, I need to set more. I have semester long goals which are
great but weekly goals would also be beneficial to me. I have trouble setting goals mainly
because I don t see the big picture. I know I want a great gpa and graduate on time but setting
goals to get there has never really benefited me. I m sure if I set weekly goals such as wanting to
get an a on a test or challenging myself to learn more than what is expected would help. I still
would have trouble because in my opinion everyone strives to accomplish these things. College is

`` Our Secret `` By Susan Griffin
Throughout the essay Our secret by Susan Griffin, Griffin talks about a few characters fears,
secrets and she gives us insights into these secrets . Griffin comes to realize her own secrets and
fears by examining others. She relates to a few of the characters such as Himmler, Leo, Helene and
everyone else even though she is different than all of them. The only thing that all of these
characters have in common is that they all represent human emotion. Susan Griffin reveals that
everyone has a hidden side to them and anything being showed on the outside could be fake or a
false representation of themselves. I think of it now as a kind of mask, not an animated mask that
expresses the essence of an inner truth, but a mask that falls like dead weight over the human face.
(Griffin 237) This quote explains what she means about secrets being the barrier to others feelings
and having this mask hides what you really feel on the inside.
What then occurs if the soul in its small beginnings is forced to take on a secret life? He harbors
his secrets in fear and guilt, confessing them to no one until in time the voice of his father
chastising him becomes his own. A small war is waged in his mind (Griffin 240).
In this quote from the essay, Griffin is saying that Himmler has these hidden secrets that are
creating a conflict within him which are the barriers to Himmler s emotions that were created and
brought up by his childhood. What Griffin is trying to say in this quote is that

Anorexia Essay
The Causes and Effects of Anorexia
When I think of anorexia, a few things come to mind. I think of really bad episodes of Beverly

the research I ve done thus far on anorexia, I now know that this is a very unrealistic representation
of what is actually a very serious disease.
The purpose of this study is twofold. First, I have done extensive research on the causes and
effects of anorexia. Secondly, I will produce a survey that asks basic questions about anorexia. I

Another widespread misconception about the disease of anorexia is that it is a new disease.
Actually, doctors say that anorexia has its roots centuries ago. Through different time periods,
people have fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People fasted in Biblical times to pay
reverence to God or just to exercise self discipline. Anorexia has been around almost as long as
man.(Deth and Vandereycken, 1990)
Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is not
contageous, of course; it is spread through society and the media. For example, what is known as
the quot;Barbie doll syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a mental disease. People starve
themselves so that their bodies will match their fashion role models. One strong example of this is
the quot;waif quot; look that came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. The quot;in quot;
style was to like like Kate Moss, and girls would do what they had to do to accomplish this
look. Usually, this meant cutting a few meals out of the day.
Fashion, music, movies, television, and radio all contribute to the spread of anorexia.(Bruch, 1979)
The start of anorexia in a particular patient can be difficult to pinpoint. It tends to begin during
childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These changes can be: going away to
camp, switching

Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay
In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must
occur on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must
occur. Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There
are several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective
mechanism, and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitationor non inductive mechanism. These
three theories for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed
below.
2.4.1 Convective Mechanism
In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the
ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top
of the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by
downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that
can be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a
typical thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the
temperature dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective
mechanism does not explain the primary charging mechanism.
2.4.2 Induction Mechanism
Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism.

Operating Systems And Operating System
Operating Systems Every computer needs an operating system to operate. The operating system
controls everything that the computer does, the master controller. It is the gasoline of the
computer. According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is the
integral part of virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your
computer (p 184). Most computers are bought with the operating system already installed. Once
the computer is turned on, the operating system does a check of the system, which includes the
hardware of peripheral devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is
loaded into the ROM of the computer. There are several different operating systems that can run
a computer system. Just like software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection
over the years. Back in the earlier years of computers, there was only one operating system. This
was the well known , Disk Operating System, also known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a
complicated operating system. Once a computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS
DOS:. This was its way of telling you, that it is ready for its next command. This is when you
had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you with an on screen list of what you could
do from there. You had to specifically type in the command, of what you wanted to do next.
However, the life of the computer changed forever with the birth of

Constitutional Reform Research Paper
Our Constitution: Does it need to be reformed? In 1780 one person proposed an idea to reconstruct
our government; Alexander Hamilton proposed a general convention to frame a new constitution
(Beard 3). The Article of Confederation was failing and the several men wanted a change to form a
stronger national government. Some states excelled under the Article of Confederation while others
struggled, there was no whole as a nation only sovereignty for the states. In 1787 the Framers

Many things to be amended to change, add on, or reword. One thing that has a huge aspect in
our country is personal rights; way to show the constitution is at flaw is lack of specification in
Amendment 2 on what the Bearing Arms represents. The states if they agreed upon it could
amend this if they were to call a convention. The Failure to specify rights of privacy is another
flaw (2). The constitution does not specify many things but rather only idealizes the general idea.
Framers made the constitution this way. From these flaws and broad controversy s leads us into

would be fewer factions which become dangerous in our democracy (Madison 5). Another thing
that should be addressed is the amount of power Congress possesses compared to states; the power
produces lack of trust and hate towards Congress. The reason on why people hate Congress so
much is because the amount of taxes that the citizens of the United States have to pay toward the
national government, some states don t even see back the money they have to invest towards the

Administrative Procedural Act Summary
5. Review and be able to explain the applicability of the Administrative Procedural Act of 1946 to
public policy in the context of public agencies found in the Kerwin and Furlong book. The
Administrative Procedure Act requires disclosure of information about rulemaking to the public by
use of the Federal Register. The Federal Register still remains the primary, but not the sole, official
mechanism for communication with the public regarding rules under development. The APA seems
to allow agencies considerable flexibility in what went into a rulemakingnotice. In making rules of
general applicability agencies were generally free, in the absence of a special statue, to develop
factual materials or not to develop them as they see fit. Such... Show more content on

This is all connected together in a network in order to deliver a very well Service. Therefore,
topologies of network are defined as the schemes of joining a number of computers in the form
of network. Two or more computers and devices are connected together to link for a data
communication. The topology of network is considered as the geometric representation of the
relationship of all the links and nodes (communication devices) to one another. The network
topologies are classified into two categories: i.Bus topology ii. Ring topology iii. Star topology
i.Bus topology In this type of network, all nodes are connected to the common communication
medium or central cable. The central physical cable that connects nodes is known as bus. This
type of topology used the multipoint connection and the central single cable acts as a backbone
to link all the devices to the network. The advantages of bus topology are: It is easy to install
and maintain and it is less expensive. The nodes are not affected if one node is failed. The
network is not affected if nodes is added and removed from the network. The disadvantages of bus
topology are: I t promotes and support only a small number of nodes. The entire networks fail if
there is any problem with central cable. ii.Ring topology: In this type of networking, each node has

Literature Review On Media Violence
PSY 4111 Literature Review. E. Langslow
Trends across research suggest exposure to media violence positively correlates with subsequent
violent behaviour
In this era of internet connectivity, access to an array of violent media stimuli is readily available.
Scientific exploration of the effects of such exposure on real world violent behaviour carries
potential ramifications for the safety of global communities. Media violence is understood here as
stimuli that includes depictions of violence or calls to violent action and includes image, video,
television and gaming. Violent behavior is defined as behavior causing emotional or physical harm
expressed verbally or physically. Whilst there remains no causal proof for the... Show more content

The Bobo doll study found that children were more likely to imitate violent behaviour they
witnessed in a film if they perceived the behaviour would generate positive outcomes (Bandura,
Ross, Ross, 1963). Later findings across three decades of cognitive research on the effects of
learning and priming concluded thoughts are connected by similar association, with media stimuli
cognitively relating to memories and responses to trigger violent schemata retrieval in real world
situations (Berkowitz, 1984; Bushman Geen, 1990; L Rowell Huesmann Eron, 2013). Findings in
two general aggression model (GAM) studies that complement cognitive frameworks, both
monitored increases in physical arousal as potential determinants for short term violent behavior.
Again, positive correlations were found following exposure to media violence.(Bushman Anderson,
2001; Thomas, Horton, Lippincott, Drabman, 1977). Environmental factors
A range of studies assert that causes of violent behavior are complex at the level of environmental
influence and compare other learning, modelling and disinhibiting factors. This is an area where
opposition to the hypothesis is more common. Two longitudinal studies assessing levels of violence
pre and post the introduction of television found a positive correlation, however

Examples Of Hubris In Into The Wild
In the movie Into The Wild and the article Death Of The Innocent the character Chris portrays a
great deal of Hubris. There are many reasons why he is very self confident. The first reason is
when he takes a harder and longer route to Alaska. He suffered from hubris because he doesn t
think he will die; considering that many people died taking the route Chris wants to take. An
example from the story is the time he canoed for hundreds of miles and crossed the Mexican
international border. In that journey Chris could have gotten jailed for a long time for crossing an
international border illegally or possibly killed. As the text states, If this adventure proves fatal, I

1. Name two types of market failure. Explain why each may cause market outcomes to be
inefficient.
Externalities and Market Power. Externalaties are byproducts of a product.Exteranlities can lead
to a failure because buyers and sellers do not consider the side effects, which can lead to
imbalance in equilibrium based on a societal standpoint. Market Power occurs when there is a
single buyer and seller (or small group of them) with the ability to control market prices. This can
lead to failure because it keeps prices and quantity away from the equilibrium of supply and
demand. 2. What happens to consumer and producer surplus when the sale of a good is taxed?

6. Why do economists use real GDP rather than nominal GDP to gauge economic well being?
Define the GDP deflator.
Nominal GDP is GDP (goods and services produced, and their prices) calculated at current
prices. Real GDP is GDP calculated at constant prices(goods ands and services produced). We use
Real GDP because it reflects changes in production vice changes in prices. The GDP Deflator
allows calculating only the prices of goods and services. 7. What is the CPI? Which do you think
has a greater effect on the consumer price index: a 10 percent increase in the price of chicken, or a
10 percent increase in the price of caviar? Why?
Consumer Price Index, is a measure of the overall cost of goods and services bought by a typical
consumer. A 10% increase in chicken will have a greater affect on the CPI because more people
typically by chicken than those who buy caviar. 8. Describe the three factors that make the
consumer price index an imperfect measure of the cost of living. Then explain how the GDP
deflator differs from the CPI.
Substition Bias: Consumers substitute towards goods that cost less
Introduction of new goods: A new product is introduced allowing more choices. This reduces cost
of maintaining same level of economic well being.

  • 2. The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the creation of the horror genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts at horror movies, it certainly shaped the genre into what it is today and made it accessible to global audiences. The appearance of horror movies happens in cycles with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears, delivers thrills to the audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are made, or original films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are produced. Eventually, the market becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie industry in hopes of collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romeros Night of the Living Dead was made in 2004, in 2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the remake of Hitchcock s Psycho and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in 2017. Hantke calls this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some of these films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to the loss of originality and the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the basis of every successful horror film. The next step for the challenged horror industry was the process of transnationalization searching for inspiration outside familiar borders, more specifically turning to East Asia. The initial phase of J horror s rising popularity in the United States, for example, was largely driven by a search, on the part of hardcore fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of horror film. • 3. Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens Charles Dickens, the author of Oliver Twist. Charles Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 in Landport, England, and then died on June 9th, 1870 in Kent, England. In his 58 years of life he made a collection of books that are still famous today; although it was not until 1836 that he started to come to fame when he published The Pickwick Papers. One of the many books he published was Oliver Twist and this story was one that he related too, because like this story Dickens had little education as a child and had to work as a child after his father was thrown into prison; however like the story goes he did not give up and made the most out of the life that he had ( Life of Charles Dickens). The book Oliver Twist is a story about a young boy named Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan that everyone sees as a nuisance that is too naive to ever be more than just a hungry little boy. Unfortunately Oliver was abused from everyone that was older or in a higher ranking position than him, however, this was not uncommon almost every poor person was abused by the middle class or anyone that had more than an empty stomach to their name. Just like the different types of classes that are present today in this book, they had the same four classes then the upper class, middle class, working class, and the lower class; and each one of these classes influenced the world differently. Covert Monitoring Of Private Communications Shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the US Patriot Act granted was enacted granting wide legal authority to the intelligence community as a defensive measure against future terrorist attacks. Among those new powers, included in Article 215, is the right to obtain business records, while imposing a gag order on the party holding those records. This law remains the foundation upon which the current NSA phone metadata collection campaign is operated. In October 2001, President Bush ordered the National Security Agency to commence covert monitoring of private communications through the nation s telephone companies without the requisite FISA warrants. The agency began surveilling the Internet for emails, financial data, and voice messaging on belief that such metadata was not constitutionally protected. In effect, by penetrating the Internet for text and the parallel Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for voice, the NSA had gained access to much of the world s telecommunications. Imagine living your day to day life without a job or a home. Going from place to place, farm to farm, just looking for your next meal. Whether you are able to put yourself in this place or not it will always have been the lives of George and Lennie. Lennie s troublemaking actions, and George s controlling trai Their struggles and those of people during the Great Depression are unfortunate, but are the fuel for Of Mice and Men s value. This book holds value historically, because of its setting and the struggles presented because of it. John Steinbeck uses thoroughly developed characters to thicken the plot of Of Mice and Men. He uses distinct features and qualities to differentiate one character from the next. The differences between characters is what creates several of the conflicts in the novella. Curley s antagonistic character toward people of large stature causes tension between himself and Lennie, instantly creating conflict. The conflicts in the plot are what makes Of Mice and Men entertaining. Lennie is not conscious of some of his actions. He does before he thinks. Attention is directed toward him, drawing the reader s attention in and making them want to know how things will be taken care of. Lennie is talking to Curley s wife about how he likes to pet soft things. She then mentions how soft her own hair is. Lennie instantly begins to pet her hair. She wants him to stop, but Lennie gets scared and covers her mouth, and later breaking her neck leading to death. Lennie s big fingers fell to stroking her hair. Don t you muss it up, she said. Lennie said Oh that s nice, and he stroked harder. Oh that s nice. ... Lennie was in a panic. His face was contorted. She screamed then, and Lennie s other hand closed over her mouth and nose (Steinbeck 45). Whether it is a serious fight, or a silly quarrel, Lennie s actions are entertaining. Because of this, Lennie gets into trouble with Curley. Not only was Lennie s size a problem for Curley, but his actions at have taken him deeper into trouble. This sport is straightforward and simple, but relates to physics in many ways. If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they need to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to score. Cowans 3 Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount of strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass, than soccer ball. When we apply force to the ball the same amount does come back, but because of the unbalanced masses, we don t fill the push back, and this also means we have a greater Inertia because of our leg s resistance. Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the soccer ball has a very important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the ball they transfer their momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times it s mass. Once your momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be demonstrated when someone passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum in the ball. This has become a hotly debated topic, with some arguing professional sportsmen and sportswomen should receive an equal amount of money, and others arguing sportswomen do not deserve to be paid equally. Should women in sport receive equal pay to their male counterparts? Two arguments FOR Sportswomen effectively perform the same job as sportsmen, and thus deserve to be paid the same. Women train just as hard as men and exert just as much energy as men when in professional sport. Sportswomen also face the same difficulty of competition as sportsmen in professional sport: sportswomen compete against the best sportswomen, and sportsmen compete against sportsmen. Women should be paid the same as men for winning a tournament. No, it is not easier to win the women s tournament than the men s tournament: again, sportswomen compete against the best sportswomen, and sportsmen compete against best sportsmen. Such elements also show that no matter the person, however they are, can be capable of evil and that not everyone by appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both Pointer coming across as a well raised Christian and Hulga s mother always being so conscious and judgmental of her choices further strengthen that ugliness in such terms as one being grotesque stems from the nature of a person for who they are as an individual. • 12. Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s... Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress, as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced nurses, and doctors of profound ... Although the film takes place in 1899, He included songs from music legends such as Elton John, Madonna, and The Beatles. In The Great Gatsby, Luhrmann chose to allow a music entrepreneur, Jay Z, to take control of the music to be played. Jay Z used self produced music, and music of modern super stars that he knew the crowd would fall in love with. (10) In Romances love and marriage, two matters often associated with each other, are treated as two entirely separate things. In Eliduc by Marie de France and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, marriageis not done out of love, and keeping chivalric codes and promises is paramount, even if it complicates extramarital affairs. • 26. Devaluation May Provide A Country With Devaluation By looking at the conclusions that are drawn from the analysis of two different case studies, it can be claimed that devaluation might succeed in achieving its main goals (increasing exports, boosting the domestic economy and correct trade imbalances). Nevertheless, the negative consequences that result from it (such as inflation, increasing unemployment, expensive imports) seem to overweight the benefits that devaluation could provide a country with. This thesis will be discussed in the essay firstly by giving a brief definition of devaluation, by addressing its characteristics and causes, and by speculating on why devaluation might work theoretically. Then, it will use the two case studies of a developed (China) and a developing (Bangladesh) countries to support the argument that, overall, devaluation appears to be an unsuccessful economic strategy. First, devaluation is commonly defined as a monetary policy tool that can be used by countries having a fixed exchange rate and it consists of weakening artificially the domestic currency in relation to the foreign ones (Begg et al. 2003). It is usually adopted by states that are facing trade deficits (when imports exceed exports), and its major aim is to raise the prices of foreign goods relative to home goods, in order to create excess demand for domestic production (Krugman and Taylor 1976, 1). At the point when Keats depicts his feelings of trepidation of death before he can completely express every one of that his mind holds When I have fears that I may cease to be, before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain, before high pilГЁd books in character, hold like rich garners the full ripened grain . , this shows to me an incredible wonderful aspiration inside Keats and a ... The Origins Of The Dinosaur Myth For over a century, paleontologists have been collecting abundant dinosaur fossils from the Western Interior of North America, with many of these fossils found in rocks dating back to the final stages of the Cretaceous Period. Only recently, however, have we learned that most of these dinosaurs existed on a lost continent today referred to as Laramidia . (Switek, 2010) Two new species of horned dinosaurs have been found in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Southern Utah. The bigger of the two new dinosaurs, Utahceratops gettyi, had a skull 2.3 meter (around 7 feet) long. The first part of the name combines the origin of the find and ceratops, Greek for horned face . Being a world class engineering student comes with many capabilities and qualities. It is an overall image of a great engineering student. To be a world class engineering student you must understand what it takes to succeed. Working well in a team is a great way to start. If a student can work well in a team them will be very successful. Most engineers work in teams to this very day. Not only will you work in a team once you become an engineer but having a study group will help tremendously. It will allow like minded students to get together and work hard to achieve the task at hand. A world class engineering student will realize their strengths and weaknesses. They will hit their strong points and strive to improve their weaknesses. A world class engineering student will also have great timemanagement skills. Students won t wait until the last minute to do a project and risk a bad grade. They will start off working on bits and pieces at a time. Time management is the key to success for many students. This along with all the other qualities listed will make a world class engineering student. Goalsetting is a major part of being successful. It gives you something to strive for. A world class engineering student would wantto have long term and short term goals. This would give a student something to work hard for and allow them to see progress. The would know exactly what to have set for themselves. The goals would be realistic and challenging that would push them further and to have a positive affect on them. I set goals for myself but overall, I need to set more. I have semester long goals which are great but weekly goals would also be beneficial to me. I have trouble setting goals mainly because I don t see the big picture. I know I want a great gpa and graduate on time but setting goals to get there has never really benefited me. I m sure if I set weekly goals such as wanting to get an a on a test or challenging myself to learn more than what is expected would help. I still would have trouble because in my opinion everyone strives to accomplish these things. College is all about this in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. `` Our Secret `` By Susan Griffin Throughout the essay Our secret by Susan Griffin, Griffin talks about a few characters fears, secrets and she gives us insights into these secrets . Griffin comes to realize her own secrets and fears by examining others. She relates to a few of the characters such as Himmler, Leo, Helene and everyone else even though she is different than all of them. The only thing that all of these characters have in common is that they all represent human emotion. Susan Griffin reveals that everyone has a hidden side to them and anything being showed on the outside could be fake or a false representation of themselves. I think of it now as a kind of mask, not an animated mask that expresses the essence of an inner truth, but a mask that falls like dead weight over the human face. (Griffin 237) This quote explains what she means about secrets being the barrier to others feelings and having this mask hides what you really feel on the inside. What then occurs if the soul in its small beginnings is forced to take on a secret life? He harbors his secrets in fear and guilt, confessing them to no one until in time the voice of his father chastising him becomes his own. A small war is waged in his mind (Griffin 240). In this quote from the essay, Griffin is saying that Himmler has these hidden secrets that are creating a conflict within him which are the barriers to Himmler s emotions that were created and brought up by his childhood. I think of really bad episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 and Baywatch in which females, ususally teenagers, starve themselves and take diet pills. The eating problem is always resolved within the timespan of one 30 minute episode. From the research I ve done thus far on anorexia, I now know that this is a very unrealistic representation of what is actually a very serious disease. The purpose of this study is twofold. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another widespread misconception about the disease of anorexia is that it is a new disease. Actually, doctors say that anorexia has its roots centuries ago. Through different time periods, people have fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People fasted in Biblical times to pay reverence to God or just to exercise self discipline. Anorexia has been around almost as long as man.(Deth and Vandereycken, 1990) Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is not contageous, of course; it is spread through society and the media. For example, what is known as the quot;Barbie doll syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a mental disease. People starve themselves so that their bodies will match their fashion role models. One strong example of this is the quot;waif quot; look that came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. The quot;in quot; style was to like like Kate Moss, and girls would do what they had to do to accomplish this look. Usually, this meant cutting a few meals out of the day. Fashion, music, movies, television, and radio all contribute to the spread of anorexia.(Bruch, 1979) The start of anorexia in a particular patient can be difficult to pinpoint. It tends to begin during childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These changes can be: going away to camp, switching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must occur on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must occur. Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There are several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective mechanism, and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitationor non inductive mechanism. These three theories for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed below. 2.4.1 Convective Mechanism In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top of the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that can be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a typical thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the temperature dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective mechanism does not explain the primary charging mechanism. 2.4.2 Induction Mechanism Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism. ... The operating system controls everything that the computer does, the master controller. It is the gasoline of the computer. According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is the integral part of virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your computer (p 184). Most computers are bought with the operating system already installed. Once the computer is turned on, the operating system does a check of the system, which includes the hardware of peripheral devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is loaded into the ROM of the computer. There are several different operating systems that can run a computer system. Just like software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection over the years. Back in the earlier years of computers, there was only one operating system. This was the well known , Disk Operating System, also known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a complicated operating system. Once a computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS DOS:. This was its way of telling you, that it is ready for its next command. This is when you had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you with an on screen list of what you could do from there. You had to specifically type in the command, of what you wanted to do next.
