Dubious Battle, Mac McLeod radiates both of these traits and although these traits are admirable
as aforementioned, Mac s motives and actions cause some of his better qualities to be overlooked.
For Mac, most of what he does is to benefit his cause and what he is working towards, which is
ultimately a massive strike by thousands of workers on an apple farm. However, there are points
throughout the novelin which we see Mac force others to give up something, possibly even their

We were rowdy, and we had too much energy to just sit around quietly. My cousins, my brothers,

In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why
what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at
more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will
address his explanation of why what is is imperishable.
Argument 1.
Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied)
It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10)
Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11)
This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question
what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9
10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some
specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier
might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had
a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have
been generated.
Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or
having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the
idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my
reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the
idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the
only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not,

Technology can be our friend or our worst enemy. In Forbes The Stepford Wives and in Peele s
film, Get Out, both directors have a central idea of reconstructing our society for it to best suited
for us, as individuals. Unless you knew going in that both of these movies were in the genre of
Horror, you wouldn t be expecting it, more in The Stepford Wives than in Get Out. However the
interesting part about both of these works is that they both have an oddly similar theory behind
them, and it leads the viewer to believe that The Stepford Wives could have been an inspiration for
Get Out, unless you already knew that after hearing Peele s interview stating that it was. Both of the
works use technology and science in a way that by the end of both works the viewer is shocked, at
least I was.

Generations don t battle, they mostly clash into each other. We see this in our very own lives,
where parents bring up their past and say, If only you knew how good you have it! . This will
forever be somewhat a problem in the past, present, and future of our lives. One generation will
always be underestimated or beyond correct then the other. In Yasujiro Ozu s film Tokyo Story we
see constant clashing of the elderly and the youth. Ozu s message of how the generations have
changed is a way of him defining to us what the human struggle is. Due to the character s actions
in the way they treat each other we can pick up on the struggles that they are having and see the
human struggle in the film. At the start of the film, Ozu shows us two of the main characters of
the film; Shukichi and Tomi. We see them packing their bags to go on a trip. They are going to
see their children whom, they haven t seen in a long while. We can see that Ozu is showing us
that becoming old is one struggle that most humans fear, but of course it must occur in our
lives. When the old slow couple are packing, Shukichi asks Tomi where the inflatable pillow is
and Tomi responds and says that she gave it to him. With aging comes forgetfulness and
stubbornness; and when Tomi says she gave it to him he starts to say no you didn t, you still
have it. Later we see it appear in his bag where he said it wasn t and nothing is said when he finds
it. It is simply brushed away with no argument to follow. Ozu shows
