What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Ways I which we collected feedback We used various methods in which to collectfeed back on our trailer we..Uploaded our trailer to bloggerUploaded our trailer onto each members of the groups twitter account Made and uploaded our trailer onto YouTubeShowed the trailer to the class on a big screen and handed out questionnaires to each person
BLOGGER!As soon as our trailer was completed we uploaded our trailer onto blogger so this was our first step in gaining audience feedback. This also allowed us to easily view our trailer which helped us complete our work during our coursework. As well by uploading our trailer onto blogger we were allowing all the media students to view it as they would also have a blogger account as they needed one to do there coursework therefore hopefully getting maximum feedback.
Blogger feedbackHere are snapshots of the comments people made on our blogger sites
What we learnt from our blogger feedbackFrom the feedback on our blogger sites we didn’t receive any improvements to make to our trailer. However we learnt that we captured the right feeling for a horror trailer “This trailer showed conventions of a real horror film”- Beth mills. “This trailer is really good! It fits in with the genre”- Ang mediaAs well from the comments we got we found that we drew in our target audience as they said “very eye catching, and it and me want to go and see it” and “really interesting storyline so you done really well as the trailer make you want to watch the film : )” – clappy
Twitter! As another way to gather audience feedback we each uploaded the unknown horror trailer to our twitter account. We thought by doing this we would get loads of feedback from our target audience as it is used widely by them However this method proved unsuccessful as we received no feedback which seemed a shame as this would have been a great way to see what our main viewers of the film actually thought of it
The problem with us uploading this on to twitter was that me Kate or Tanya didn't really use twitter that regularly therefore we did not have that many followers to see our tweets or watch our trailer. Maybe if we established our self on twitter first the more comments we would have possibly received .
YouTubeYouTube was a great way of receiving audience feedback for our trailer and allows people all over the world to view it easily. This way did prove one of the most effective for us as we got 75 views, 3 likes, 0 dislikes and 3 comments. This gave us Improvements to make to our trailer that we took on board
Snapshots of our comments made on YouTube
FeedbackWe received a constructive feed back on our trailer from a person who commented on our trailer via YouTube “As requested, some constructive criticism for you: Though the film is The Unknown a hint would be good as to what it's about and what to expect so as a viewer you can be persuaded to go see the film or at least search for more info. As a viewer you just assume it's a group of students that go missing, though it doesn't absolutely allude to that. I liked the music/sound throughout, though the scream at the end was a bit stereotypical/Halloween like. And perhaps add more shocking/jumpy scene co”This comment shows us that we have stuck to media conventions which is good as it allows the audience to relate to what they are use toShows that we chose the right music for the audience to realise that it is a horror/thriller film This part helps us and tells us more what we need to add if we were to do this again in order to make it maybe more appealing or fit the horror/thriller more From this comment we can see that we possibly need to make our story line a little clearer how ever we do not want to make it to clear as it is only a teaser trailer
Trailer Shown to the classSince we had limited feedback from our target audience we decided to show our trailer to the whole class. We wrote a questionnaire and handed one out to each member of the class the questions we asked were... From watching this trailer can you see what genre it is?Did you like it?What would you change about itWould you see it at the cinemaWhat did you remember from the trailer? what stood out?Did you understand the plot?
Feed back results100% of the class knew what genre the trailer was. From this we learnt that we were portraying the genre correctly and made it easy and recognizable. From this we can see that 100% of the class we surveyed said that they liked it. This is a very positive thing as it showed that we addressed what our target audience wanted to see.
This was one of the most effective question that we asked as in a sense it was asking what we need to add or remove to improve it. The main thing is we needed to add more Dialogue into our trailer. After looking back on our feed back we did agree with this and if we were to do this again we would have had more taking from the characters.
This again is very positive feed back as it shows that the majority would go and pay to see it at the cinema suggesting that the trailer was captivating and the storyline was gripping. However that small percentage that said that they maybe would see this was due to that fact that they don't enjoy horror films. From this we can see that the most memorable thing from our trailer was the scream at the end this is quite startling and loud but very effective as shown in this graph as people remember it. Therefore they may think back later and want to know or hopefully see that film that had that loud scream at the end.
From this graph just over half understood the plot of the film. However we didn't see this as a negative thing and feel the need to make our plot more obvious as in a teaser trailer the plot is not completely clear you need to leave the person watching it in suspense in order for them to want to see the film or else if they find out the story line in the trailer there will be no point in them seeing the film Over all the class big screen viewing really did turn out to be the most effective way in gathering feedback and improvements to make to our trailer and we used the improvements and put them into other areas of our work such as the magazine the teaser poster and poster.
Improvements made to other work due to feedbackAs it was to late to make huge changes to our trailer cause we have already filmed it and constructed it to a level we feel is very good and proud of we decided to include peoples feedback into other areas of work to do with our film.
POSTERWe gave a little more of the story line away as we put “what's out there?” this gives more away as the feedback suggested as it shows that they are out there looking for something. As well as it say “the new Blair witch-fantastic” it lets the audience know that it is going to be in a Blair witch style which is a pretty well known film
Possible improvements to our trailer Here is a link to our trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ3Ct9vKBGU&feature=player_embeddedFrom looking at our audience feed back the main points we need to address to improve on areMore dialogue
More jumpy
Make the plot a tiny bit more clearer WAYS IN WHICH TO IMPROVE More dialogue Talking when location shot of the forestMaybe some one screaming run at this point Possibly something like “so first day of shooting this is our home for the week this creepy forest” but the character saying it could be as if they are our of breath a bit as if they have been running away from something By adding dialogue in at these two points it will address the improvements that our feedback feel is needed. As well we feel that it will also, add to the home video style as there is more taking.
Ways in which to improve More jumpy scenes Just before the coming soon comes across the scream we could have some scary face jumping in front of the camera. However by doing this it could take away the shock of the scream and also, it could give away what the ‘unknown’ is
Ways to improve Make the plot a bit clearerAt this point we could have changed the texts to include something like “On the 6/6/6 3 media students set out to discover if the legends of forest was true they experienced something people would never forget ...” By adding a little more to this you are telling the viewer that they are setting our to film and prove if the legends of the forest were true giving them a little more insight into what the film is about with out giving to much away
