The ways in which my media product uses, develops or challenges forms and conventions of real magazines In many ways my magazine uses typical forms and conventions of real magazines. For example; a rapper on my front cover , eye brows , bold writing , a masthead and a bar code. Here is an example of a well established music magazine. A masthead A singer/rapper Bold writing that will catch the eye of a consumer in a store. Eye brows. This magazine is not displaying a bar code on the front how ever many do. Eye contact. This is important as the rapper/singer will be the main selling point and main story inside the magazine. There for it is important that the photo will grab the attention of possible consumers. The eye brows are to the side of the rapper. As the first thing you see when you look at the magazine is the rapper. First of all you look at the face then as you work your way down to the shoulders there is bold colourful writing. This is to capture the consumers attention and does so affectively.
The ways my magazine uses these conventions Like on the previous slide my front cover uses a lot of the same conventions as the well established vibe magazine. For example there is eye contact with the rapper. As there is with Eminem on the Vibe magazine. As you look at the magazine the rapper is the main attraction, as you work your way down the rappers body you see the eye brows to the side of him. They are eye grabbing enticing quotes in bold colourful writing which grabs consumers attention. Also there is a masthead fairly big behind the rapper. How ever there is one way in which my magazine challenges the typical conventions. On the front cover there are eye catching stories but no pull quotes. Although I do not see this as a bad thing as the stories are just as eye catching. Masthead Eye contact Eye brows Bold colourful writing.
Contents page conventions As you can see there are a lot of similar conventions I have taken from other music magazines such as this Vibe magazine. There is one main image that shows the reader the main article inside. For example in my Magazine it is an interview with an upcoming artist. You can tell it is an interview as we are shaking hands. Also the Features to one side of the photo. One of the main conventions of a contents page is the page numbers. Which I on my contents page have similar to Vibes. A convention that I could develop is my font. A typical convention of a contents page is using different fonts. This draws attention to different areas of the magazine. I have not used different fonts, Although its something I could develop in the future.
Double page spread conventions A large title explaining what the page will contain. The name of the artist that the spread will be focusing on in bold Articles are put into columns for a professional effect and look. A short snappy introduction to the article which will allow it to flow Bold and or bright colours catching consumers eye.
My double page spreads conventions As you can see from the previous slide my magazine has a lot of these conventions. There is a short snappy introduction to the article also bold bright colours. And important text and the artist name is in bold and it stands out. The articles are in columns which does make the page look a lot more professional. important text and artists name in bold standing out The articles are in the form of columns. A Short snappy introduction to the article allowing it to flow better. A large eye catching image of the artist. Relevant pull quotes to entice the reader to carry on reading the rest of the article. Although the article does need some development I could have another picture to make the over all spread look better and more eye catching.
The audience and social groups I am trying to represent.
