- 4. My front cover of my magazine follows most conventions of a hip-hop musical magazine. Firstly I have a quote from the artist. This is popular on music magazines, particular hip hop as it engages th reader. The general layout of my front cover follows the conventions as I used the rule of thirds to position the artist so that his eye line is nearer the top of the page. Furthermore, I have the barcode and price as the bottom as its not more significant than the main image and cover lines and it’s the last thing the reader will see. I also used a banner at the bottom of my page which pretty much sum up what my magazine is and I placed my cover lines on one side of the page only. This follows the conventions of music magazines. Another convention of hip hop magazines is too have the issue date next to the title and so I have done this. The pose of my artist is masculine and serious facial expression which is also typical of hip hop artists to do. My front doesn’t challenge the conventions real hip hop music magazines as much as it follows it. I think this is good because it would most likely be more successful this way.
- 5. My contents page also follows the conventions real content’s pages. Firstly the page numbers are significantly bigger than the content as its important that it stands out and easy to read. Another convention of most content pages is to have a short brief paragraph of what to expect from upcoming issues from the editor of the magazine. I decided to do this on my contents page as I think that it’s important for the reader to know what to expect when buying a magazine. I also included the issue of the magazine as well as the title on the contents page as well keep consistency throughout my magazine. My contents page does not challenge the conventions as much apart from a few things such as the shot of the artist. On most hip hop magazines a long shot is used however I used a mid shot as I thought it suited it better. Another convention of contents pages is too have multiple images as well as the main one, however I only used on image as I thought it was more appropriate to the hip hop genre.
- 6. My double page spread just like my front cover and contents page did not challenge conventions of real double page spread. The reason why I followed the conventions more than challenged them is because I didn’t want my magazine look significantly different other real media as it would be difficult for the reader to tell what genre the magazine was. I followed conventions by using drop caps which I used to give emphasis on introductory paragraph, I used three columns to layout my text and the content it self was a Q & A. I also split my double page spread in more or less equal sides with the artist taking up one whole side and text the other which a fade in-between. I also used a quote which sits on the bottom left. This is the same quote used on the front cover of my magazine. My whole double page spread was mainly influenced by Eminem's double page spread as it was the sort of look I wanted for mine.
