This document discusses how a student media project called JLM magazine develops conventions from real music magazines like NME, Q, and Kerrang in its design elements. These include using a colorful masthead, circular puff text, cover lines featuring popular music artists, anchorage text drawing attention to the main image, repeating the masthead on the contents page, an editor's note with a welcoming tone and call for reader help, side columns under categories with matching boxed images, and a subscribe section with contact details. The double page spreads also take conventions like featuring a main artist sitting on a large prop and including mini framed pictures at the bottom, while adding some new techniques like a faded background behind the main subject.
