What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?

• From further tasks I have looked into a IPC case
study. IPC media produces and creates over 85
iconic media brands which is used for multiple
platforms across print, online and mobile brands.
• IPC is the UK’s leading consumer publisher of
magazines which interacts with 26m adults in the
UK- with two thirds being women.
Below shows images of magazines they publish:
• For example NME, Look, NME and Kerrang.
My chosen publishing company.
• I have chosen Imagine Publishing (IP) company to
offer my music magazine. I think this a good decision
because they do not offer any other music magazines
let alone pop music.
• This company already offers magazines such as
technology, photography and videogames. All of
these magazines are all aimed and focused on the
older generation.
• With these all in mind my magazine is in a
completely different target market so has a gap in
the market of their portfolio.
My music Magazine
• My pop magazine will offer IP publishing a way to
attract a different target market. This is because this
would be the only music magazine that will exist.
• Their other existing magazine they already publish are
already very popular and successful so know
specifically how to market the product to become well
known, and make any improvements.
• From their existing magazines they may find that this
magazine may cross over with interests from the target
market. For example a teenager who wants to buy
‘Popstar’ may also see that IP publish ‘the world of
animals’ so would be more inclined to buy it.
Why IPC is not right the right media
institution.
• I believe IPC is not the right media institution
due to them already having several, well
known music magazines. Therefor, publishing
my pop music magazine is more likely not to
do so well. However, from these publications
being so popular it may also make ‘popstar’
also well known as it is not in the same sector
of musical style, so would not have have direct
competition.
