Evaluation Question 4 - How did you use
new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
• Throughout the Research and Planning process, I used a
range of technologies in order to conduct research that
matched those of a professional practice. However the
use of technologies was also important in the production
process in order to create three products that also matched
those of professional practices. Also technologies were
also important in the evaluation processes in order to
display how I can use technology creatively.

Why is technology
important??
• PhotoShop was used to create my magazine front cover and Poster.
As I already had previous experience from AS Production when
working with PhotoShop, I felt like a could confidently make a
horror product that matched professional practices.
I experimented with and used a variety of features that PhotoShop
had offered, such as the Burn tool, desaturate, magnetic lassoo, crop,
hue saturation. Also I had downloaded brushes such as the blood
splat brush used on the magazine cover, and I also imported fonts
which I had downloaded through DaFont.com.
One of the main reasons why I used PhotoShop to create my
ancillary products is because it is the most popular product used
within Professional Media Practices today, thus I could create a
product that resembled those of a professional practice.

PhotoShop
• Final Cut Pro was used to create my teaser trailer. It is a
form of software which is available on Apple Macs and
again, it is often used within professional practices. With
the use of Final Cut, I could engage in keyframing which
allowed me to animate my logos and intertitles, I could
easily edit footage by cutting which sections I no longer
wanted and I could also add filters.

Final Cut Pro
As explained, those who work in professional media
practices as they contain exclusive software such as Final
Cut, and PhotoShop on a Mac is more user friendly. By
embracing the technologies provided on an Apple Mac, I
was able to create the professional products.

The use of the Macs also allowed me to conduct efficient
research and planning, edit my products and update and
record my creative journey on Blogger.

Apple Mac
• When using the internet on the Mac, I used the Mac
exclusive browser Safari, which allowed me to conduct
efficient, safe, fast, research. I also used websites such as
DaFont.com in order to download the fonts I wished to
use for my ancillary products. Furthermore, I also used
social networking sites such as FaceBook, in order to
  gain audience feedback.

The Internet…
• All of my Advanced Portfolio is recorded on Blogger, which means that I had the
opportunity to access my coursework anywhere and it was useful to keep all my
findings together in order to refer back to them in the production stage.

Prezi was also used in order to create visually pleasing presentations, similar to
PowerPoint, however this was more advantageous because it also allowed me to
embedd Youtube videos easily, and again Prezi’s can be accessed anywhere.

Slideshare was used to upload PowerPoints and embedd them into my blog. It also
allows other users to look at PowerPoints as a form of inspiration too.

YouTube was a vitally important website, as it allowed me to watch teaser trailers in
the research and planning process, but it also allowed me to upload my trailers and
rough cuts in order to gain audience feedback.

The Internet…
• Some of the built in tools on the Apple Mac were
advantageous too, such as the Grab tool, which allowed
me to create screenshots which helped me to display my
  journey through the production stage.

Photobooth was also used in order to conduct my
audience feedback in a ‘hotseat’ manner, this was
advantageous as I could easily gather the data, edit it in
final cut and then upload onto YouTube.

The Apple Mac…
• Microsoft Office tools were also used, such as Word to
conduct and print mass questionnaires which could then
be handed to my target Audience

PowerPoint was also used to create presentations such as
this one, as it looks more visually pleasing than a simple
blog post.

Microsoft Office
• For the ancillary tasks, I used an SLR Digital Stills
Camera, it enhanced my knowledge of selecting an
appropriate shutter speed, and allowed me to build up on
my photography skills such as using a steady shot with
the use of the Rule of Thirds.

• For the trailer I used a Panasonic HD Camera, which
allowed me to film in HD, again a feature which matched
those of a professional practice, this then could easily be
transferred onto the mac and uploaded onto Final Cut.
