- 2. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to film. Not every film with a specific genre of target audience, will appeal to everyone who watches it. However, through feedback from surveys, I have collected data which tells me how effective my product is.
- 3. Out of 18 people who submitted a response to my survey, 44.5%of people rated my product an 8 on how well it reflects the thriller genre, which overall makes me fell that I was successful in creating a thriller.
- 4. Audiences suggested that the most effective, and attention grabbing aspect to my product was the music, and the character choice. This suggests to me that I have effectively chosen the right character type and produced a fitting piece of music to pair with the narrative. Some of the reviews suggested that the music wasn’t a key feature, and that it actually was a downfall of the sequence. This make me think that if I had used an already existing track that it may have appealed to them too. However it was a choice that I made to create a non-diegetic sound track as I would be able to personalise the beats and tones to the moving image.
- 5. 16 out of 18 responses told me that they would in fact be interested in viewing the full length feature if it was to be created. Explanations of this include the use of a cliff hanger leave the audience in suspense and therefor mystery is apparent. I decided to include a cliff hanger to finish my sequence, as the whole point of a thriller is to leave the audience waiting, and use the element of surprise. In an opening sequence too much of the story cannot be given away. So if there was to be a full length feature of the film, the audience would have to watch the whole thing in order to find out what happens to the boy.
- 6. One of the most important questions that I included in my survey, was what age do you feel the film is suitable for. The majority of those who reviewed my film were between the ages of 17-30 and the average answer that people gave were 15-18 with 72.22% of people agreeing with this. This suggests to me that I was successful in reaching my target audience. Those who answered lower ages, were in the higher age bracket. Consequently leading me to believe that if my product was to professional standards, that the film would have appealed to them more. However the most relevant feedback comes from those with in my target audience age range.
- 7. I, personally feel that my choice of character type fit well with the genre and narrative. Explanations of this are answered in question 2. This is supported by the results fed back from my survey. 57.77% of people said that the character fit the role either well, or very well. These responses came from those in my target audiences well as some older than my target audience. Which overall makes me feel like I was successful in my decision.
- 8. 66.67% of those who responded to my survey were females. Although I did not have a specific target gender for my target audience, it does lead me to think that the character choice influenced that. Females have a natural maternal instinct when it comes to seeing the distress of a young child. Therefor these results give me further knowledge on the target audience of my product.
- 9. The last question that was asked in my survey was what could you suggest could be done to improve my product. This is one of the most important questions I could have asked as it allows me to take into account what I could/could have done to make my product even more successful than I feel it already is. The most common factor that was suggested, could have been done to improve it, was the narration over the music and film. A few small tweaks could improve the overall effect of it, such as increasing the volume of it or using final cut to edit the muffling of it. I could have avoided this if I knew, in further detail, how to use sound editing. However I feel, in myself, that I have achieved greater than I thought I would have done.
