iMovie
iMovie was the main technology that we used to create our product. iMovie is an
app only available on apple computers. It is fairly easy to get used to and really
simple to control. iMovie was used the most during the process of producing of our
opening sequence. It is easy to copy, insert and cut clips to your exact measures.
The clips at the bottom are where your import the video footage, and the clips to the
left of the screenshot are where you insert your footage and then cut it to your
preference. After researching for a Thriller genre, we were able to really grasp the
techniques used to create an effective thriller product. We used the maximum
benefits of iMovie effectively when adding sound into the movie clips. iMovie allows
us to be very precise with exactly where we want the sound to begin, which is vital
for us when producing our montage news footage clips as we have many clips of
Garageband
Garageband is a music creating software that we used to produce the soundtrack
of the product. This took a fairly long time to get used to. We also realised that
creating your own music comes with a lot of challenges, however this software has
prerecorded clips of music that you can copy and insert into your track, this helped
us to understand how
Garageband works. The Piano in the photo above allows you to click on a specific
notes to record, but we could only use this after we had got used to the software.
Garageband is useful for us when producing our Thriller style music
accompaniment because it allows us to be extremely precise in timings. We are
able to overlap many instruments over one another to create an extremely built up,
layered, effective piece of music.
facebook
Facebook was used in our production to interact with each other. We created a
group chat that we used in order to talk to each other about our plans for each
lesson. We were especially active on it when discussing our plans for filming.
For example what days we wanted to film, who we were going to ask to be
involved in the filming etc.
The screenshots below allow to show what we would talk about in order to
organise ourselves.
Microphone and Camera during
filming
We used a Nikon camera d200 and a microphone boom
during our filming. The Nikon Camera is owned by Jake
and produces a very high definition picture which makes
our opening sequence look of a high standard. The
camera nicely captured the light in our shots which are
really intriguing for the audience. We used the
microphone boom by plugging it into the camera. After
the use of it on the first day, we realised that the
microphone would make the footage sound quite muffled
and decided to film the next day without using the
microphone boom. This worked nicely in the end.
Blogger
We used blogger as our primary source of recording all of our work. The
screenshot on the left shows my blog where I record, evaluate and comment on
all of my work in order to create a type of portfolio for my AS Media work. The
Teaching Blog is the blog that outlines work that we need to do, the blog includes
examples of previous work to make our blogs even better! At the beginning of the
year we began exploring the thriller genre, and our blog shows the process of
how we got from our thriller exploring to our final product.
Prezi
I used the Prezi software on Google to answer the evaluation question, “How does
your media product represent different social groups?” Prezi is a website allowing you
to create a presentation. It is similar to Microsoft Powerpoint but much more visually
appealing. I like Prezi because it is very simple to control and looks really effective. I
learnt how to use this during our construction of our media product.
Youtube
Whenever we create an iMovie file or video using Moviemaker, we always have to upload
the
video onto Youtube in order to embed it into our blogs. I learned how to upload videos
onto Youtube whilst preparing to construct our media product. The screenshot below
shows my video response to the evaluation question, “What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?”
