1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Answer:
• I strongly believe that my media product uses forms and conventions of real-life
media products, such through: text alignment, page layout & font styles.
Emphasising an appearance that appears simplistic yet effective, created by the
conformity of the conventions and the way a real magazine would work; in turn,
I believe my music magazine looks like a real magazine.
Yet I additionally think that my media product also develops forms and
conventions of real-life media products. Such through the colouring of the
magazine, I decided to use a toned-down red as in comparison to the full opacity
red it was more suitable, additional to the factor that the full opacity red
appeared harsh and attacking when placed on the cover, extracting attention
onto the colour rather than having the focus on the picture and the connotations
within that.
I also believe that my media products challenge real magazine conventions. I
think I have shown this in the arrangement of my product, as the layout of the
double page spread exhibits a slight subversion to conventions, as I have placed
a quotation above the headline and name of the artist. This would not be seen
within conventional magazines as it can be seen as a distraction, drawing
attention away from the headline or artist themselves. I did take this into
consideration, however I felt that the placement of the quotation was justified
enough to be accepted against the conventions.
