- 1. Evaluation Unit 21 Assignment 4 For my unit 21 my first ideas were all to do with photography because photography is my favourite part of media. It is also so my strongest branch of media for me. I stated with a mind map so I could put all my ideas down on paper some options for me was; city, landscape, high exposure or black and white. I then remembered that I was going to New York in February half, I then asked if I could borrow a camera and take it to New York my teachers said yes I could. Then I decided I would do New York photography for my unit 21, because I love photography and I really wanted to get some great pictures in New York. This is my proposal I made at the start of Unit 21. Format: I am going to take photos of the tourist attractions in New York and city scape, because I’m going to New York in February Working Title: My title is photography of tourist attractions in New York. Genre: I will take photos of New York and Photoshop some but not all of them. Then I will create an expedition of photos. Which I will get people to comment and rate. This will be a great way of completing my Unit 21
- 2. Content: My expedition will contain. The main stream photos. But also one which are different attraction in New York. It will also have a paragraph describing were I took the photo and what the photo shows. Style or Approach: I will use a modern SLR Camera a Canon 600D. I Will use a wide angle lense and median lense. All the photos will be taken in a modern style, but then I will remaster them in Photoshop them so they are better. Audience: The audience I hope to cater for is a very wide audience, form about 13 to 65 and because New York is a very diverse place were many age groups live and many people like New York. Length: I don't know how many photos I will take. But I plan to place about 10 photos into my expedition with detailed paragraphys explaining what they are and when and where they were taken. Legal & Ethical considerations I will have to make sure that the photos I take do not have any copy righted material in them. If they do I will Photoshop the offender out. I feel that I have stuck to my proposal; I have used the same format as I said I would at the start the unit. I feel that I have steered away from my working title of“photography of tourist attractions in New York.” Because most of my photos are not of tourist attraction, but of city scene and street life rather than attractions. Apart from the working title I feel I have followed my proposal to the letter. I think my unit 21 has turned out how I wanted it to because I have created a good quality peace of work. Here are some examples of how edited some of the photos. i imported the photo to Photoshop. Then on the top menu bar I clicked, image>Adjustments> Black &White. Then I clicked black and white and photo was not in black and white.
- 3. After that I used the history brush tool to change the bits I still wanted in colour back to colour, for example the taxi and the American flag. Finally I cropped the sides of the photo, so some people were no longer in the photo and the photography had more of a presence. I have also made a power point which has all of my finished edited photos in where they can be viewed and rated and a step by step of how edited them ,also on my blog there is another power point with all of my photos before and after edit with paragraphs explaining the photo, my reasoning for edit and why I like or dislike the photo. I feel that my pre-production went well because I had done a lot of reach beforehand, both primary and secondary. This helped a lot because I had hands on experience with using the camera down at Boscombe Pier and the research I did about city photography on the internet helped because it gave me a better idea of how to take photographs in a city environment in manual mode. In my pre-production I created a Prezi which I put all of the preproduction material into. The sections it covered were: Production Schedule, budget, time frame, location, copy right and health and safety. In this section I feel I could of covered each section a bit better because I would have been able to refer back to it when I was stuck and rely on it a bit more. The whole production of taking photos in New York was faultless I took 3,840 photos and did not run out of SD card space which was brilliant the camera was faultless, I have really grown to like the Cannon 600D I’m debating whether to invest in one as well. I also used my time really well in the 5 days I had to get all the photos. I have got so many more which could have been in my final group of photos but I could not possible put them all. When I got back from New York I had to edit and thin down the photos. I thinned down the photos by viewing each one and then writing down the number of the photo if I liked it or not. This worked well and I soon had the photos I took narrowed down to about 30 photos. Then I choose the cream of the crop and I finished with 15 photos which made it into my exhibition.
- 4. Overall I think that my production types have all gone really well and I have used my time efficiently and properly. I have met all deadlines and targets throughout the whole unit and managed my time really well. I have asked some of my class peerstheir opinions of my photos. Many people like my Uptown Taxi. Harry Jenner said he like how the taxi was made to stand out in yellow against the black and white which gives a classical feel to it. Anthony Richards one of my peers also commented on my photos he really liked my grand central long exposure photograph. He said that the blur gives the photo a modern feel to an old building. He also likes the clock in the middle shining bright because it gives a focal point to in the blur. He said that he likes the faint movement of the people giving a sense of rush to New York. I’m really pleased with how my project has evolved and fished because I feel a sense of achievement that I have create a great piece of work and enjoyed myself along the way. Unit 21 has been a great success.
