College magazine.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

                          • This is a basic magazine
                            layout with the writing down
the side. I made it different
                            but putting a tag-line down
                            the side and using the
                            barcode, date and time. It
                            doesn't compare to many
                            magazines out now.
How does your media product represent particular social
                       groups?

I like to think that my magazine
appeals to everyone that is being
educated with-in the college its being
sold and not just focused on one
particular social group. I picked
various different interests from
around the college so there would
always be something in the
magazine that can draw the
attention of every student at the
college.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
                     product and why?

• My magazine would be sold in a shop or the
food hall with-in a college. It would be hear
because that is the high point for students to
go so more students can see it and be aware
that its on sale. To help the sales of it,
advertisement posters would be used to help
  promote the college magazine.
Who would be the audience for your media product?

• The audience for my magazine would be
students at college. This would be for the
obvious reason that it is a college magazine.
Tutors maybe interested in reading it too to
let them know of other events going on in
different areas of the college to where they
  are situated.
How would you attract/address your audience?

• I would attract the audience with the colours
that I have used. I’ve used a bold white title to
attract eyes to the magazine. Instead of using
various different images on the front, I just
have the one so the writing on the front is
more noticeable. Also the picture would be of
a student in the college and they would be
recognisable to everyone which would make
  people read it.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
                                 product?

• I have learnt a lot while creating this
magazine. I didn't use it much but I got a
better understanding of Photoshop and how
to use it plus I got to use Publisher in a more
  in-depth way.
Music Magazine.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• I didn't try to compare my
  magazine to anything that's now
out because I wanted it to be
  original and different from
  anything out there. The front
cover layout is similar to others
but none are ever as vibrant as
this. It has a big masthead like a
normal magazine but its at the
  bottom which isn't the
  traditional place.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• I wanted my magazine to
  appeal to all different social
  groups as the majority of
  them all listen to different
  music. I incorporated as many
  different genre bands or
singers as I could on the
contents page, it’s just a little
  bit of everything.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
                     product and why?

• This would be the type of magazine you would
see being sold in all major magazine
distributers such as WHSmith, Tescos, News
stands etc. I would like it to be distributed in
these places because it would get more
noticed and more sales would come from
  these places.
Who would be the audience for your media product?

• My audience would be all lovers of music and
the latest news coming from the musicians. I
didn't want audience from just one type of
genre so I have included artists from all
different. The age range would vary but it
would mostly be for mid teens to early 30’s as
it would have gossip in which the younger
  generation is more interested in.
How did you attract/address your audience?

• My front cover uses a bold green colour to
attract attention from people that wouldn't
usually get magazines, those sort of colours
catch your eye. Changing the double page
spread picture to black and white with the
read lips adds the vintage look making it look
sophisticated which may bring in some older
  readers.
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
• To product my double page spread and
contents page, I used QuarkXPress. This was
the first time I had used this software. I found
it very confusing to start with but after getting
the hang of it, it was my favour thing to use
when coming to making the magazine.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

• I have learnt that it does take a lot of time any
effort to make a magazine, even if it was just
the front cover and contents pages that were
created plus one double page spread. I have
also learnt about the new types of software
and the technical words that are used.
