Explanation
To show the audience
action to begin the
viewers interest so that
they get immediately
hooked straight into the
film.
Use In the opening the main
character of the film was shown
walking into her house covered
and well dressed to show a
glimpse of her religion. This
showed both the main character
as well as the location to the
audience.
I used the convention of
showing the audience action
and setting.
Introduce the key
characters in order to
familiarize them to the
audience and show
them what type of
characteristics the
characters introduced
have, such as if they are
a sidekick, hero or rebel.
Use Both the main characters are
shown in the opening allowing
the audience to familiarize with
them and for one of the main
characters who breaks away
from her faith, culture and family
she is shown both ways; both
rebelling and in religious Muslim
garments allowing the audience
to get more familiar with her .
I used the convention of
showing both characters and
their personal styles and
differences, showing their
contrasting characteristics.
The typical running of
titles with in the typical
order.
Use I thought the best way was to
just follow the convention and
stuck to the typical order of the
title order. Such as the director
I used the convention of the
typical running of the titles as
I thought they would look
better on the screen in the
In my film opening I had to change and develop and cut out many of my
original ideas as they were either difficult to capture and would have not
looked that professional or would have made the piece too long and not
suited well with the other parts of the film opening.
As for sounds my main inspiration was from the film Bride and
Prejudice and therefore most music was non diegetic, but still tied in
well with the film. Hence why I decided to have non diegetic music in
the background that still tied in with the theme of changing cultures. For
this I used a non copy right website which had a wide range of sounds
and songs.
Developing and challenging the forms and
conventions -
I used the same font and size and color for the
names
during my film opening and had to position all of
them
differently as I did not want the titles to take away
the
audiences attention from the characters, yet still be
big enough for them to still be able to comfortably
read them.
Shots and Titles
Where as for the title I used the same font and color
but spread wide across the screen with a sudden
change of sound and a fade in shot, to really grab
the audiences attention.
In my film opening there is a distinct representation of the social group young
Muslims and the two sides shown through the sisters. One sister is shown to be
a good young Muslim girl where as the other sister is rebelling and this is shown
by the change of her clothes and the Western music.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups
 The disturbing is the process of moving a product from
its manufacturing source to its audience.
 The distributor I used in my film was both used for Bride
and Prejudice as I felt they would tie in best with my film
opening as they both were ethnic films.
 I believe my film could be shown at any multiplex as I
feel that the genre of my film suits a variety of people
and how just because a person is born into a religious
background does not mean they wont break free.
What type of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
I set the rating of the film to be a 15, meaning nobody
under the age of 15 would legally be allowed to view this
film in a cinema or purchase or rent any copy of the film.
The British Board of Film Classification classifies that there
could be; frequent strong language, drug taking,
discriminate language or behavior portrays of sexual
activity, which would all be used in the continuation if the
film.
Although this would limit the audience that could see the
film I feel as though the age restriction would show the
film as more mature and therefore attract a more mature
audience.
Who would be the audience for your film?
As the main characters shown in my film
opening are 16 and 17 I believe this would
mainly attract young adults as the main
audience. Which could lead to an older
generation being also attracted, but not younger
as the age rating is 15+.
How would you attract/address your
audience?
I learnt how to use final cut express and most of the tools on it, such
as; importing in all the shots I shot to be able to view what I still
wanted and if it was not needed or was a repeat of a shot I would
pick which one was best then delete what else was not needed, also
the cutting down of shots as it was a film opening it needed to be
short and not have unnecessary shots which would just film the short
time space which I had, and editing clips in order to show off the
different shots used and even create shots like shot reverse shot
which are best produced by editing, also how I could dim and turn up
and cut sounds and music at different points and how to add in
different sound affects and music into my piece, although many
people used garage band as I found my music off a non copy right
website (www.audiotnetworklgfl.com8I had no need to edit or make
my own piece of music . I also learned how to use the Y frame
allowing me to move the text around at any preferred angle and the
safe margins allowed me to ensure no lettering is cut off in the
What have you learnt about
technologies from constructing your
film opening
 I have learn different aspects and skills in filming such as the use of close ups and
establishing shots.
 I also learnt how important lighting was and therefore had to refilm certain parts
of my film opening as I realized I had filmed the shots and scenes and they had
come out dark.
 I learnt that being over prepared was a lot better, such as me taking home a red
light as well as a microphone which helped during filming.
 I learnt that with music their could be copy right issues hence why I had to use a
non copy right music website.
 I learnt how to use final cut express and most of the tools for sounds, titles and
editing.
 I also learnt how to create and create shots through final cut express such as shot
reverse shot.
Lessons learnt from the start to the end of
production
