- 1. 3.) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Our movie has all the traits of a traditional noir film, with slight alterations. In 2012 there is not many film noir movies released as they were in 40s, and even their neo-noir counterparts are rare. Such as the cult hit ‘No Country for Old Men’ or the Film Noir adaptation ‘Black Dahlia’. ‘No Country For Old Men’ won 4 Oscars and many other awards, unlike ‘Black Dahlia’ a more traditional Film Noir. Proof that Noirs don’t do very well at the Box office in the 21st century; this implies that our movie would not do well in mainstream media. As full fledged Film Noirs are not filmed anymore and are replaced with the modern and more well received neo-noir. Such as the hit ‘Se7en’ or ‘LA confidential’, the neo-noir are accepted as they are different with visual style and cinematography; but with more tethered link to the present day such as in ‘Se7en the movie is set in modern times. But our movie is not a neo-noir and the time period is different. But other media has done well at this time period such as remake of the 1971 hit TV show ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ (2010), the show follows the lives of the staff and resistant’s of 165 Eaton Place. The show won 6 prime time Emmy’s, prove that the time period goes down well with the public. Our movie is stand alone film noir with little or no chance at a sequel. Unless we teamed up with a larger companies such as Fox or LoinsGate to remake some of the older film noir movies. In, conclusion our Noir piece would be lucky to get a distribution deal, as Noirs are history in the traditional sense. But ours might get a better reception in the art-house audiences,or the Internet only release. The major reason why our movie will not be well received in the mainstream media is the use of mise en scene, as Film noir are famous for there unique visual style; the use of dynamic lighting to depict emotion, the setting always shows a trapped and maze like world.
