WORLDVIEWS ADDRESS
AHALLER
ORIGIN – THE PAST
• Origin (Cosmology)- the
beginning: What is the original
cause?
• Supernatural - a design
and purpose – every religion
has an answer
OR
• Natural - the mere
collision of random atoms?
The supernatural is
presumed not to exist.
Atheism asserts this while
Agnosticism does not know
• Post-modernism as non
rational “what does it
matter?” Reject reason.
MEANING – PURPOSE
• Meaning – words what do they
truly mean?
• Epistemology – Define a word or
meaning?
• Epistemology provides
justifications for broad categories
to describe what kinds of things are
known.
• Post modernism – Deconstructs
language – meaning is whatever
you wish it to be
• Purpose – Design (Ontology)
the reason for which something is
done or created.
• Words such as: motive, cause,
reason, basis, justification, resolve,
dedication, intension, aim, or plan
Post modern :
Meaning is whatever
you wish to have
subjectively
MORALITY – THE PRESENT
• Morality: beliefs about what is right and
wrong behavior - the degree to which
something is right and good : the moral
goodness or badness of something
• Ethical framework
• How can one describe evil? If you can
describe evil you must be able to describe
good. If there is good there must be a moral
law. If a moral law it points to a moral law
giver.
• Is the moral law giver the State, a Religion, a
Philosophy, a Person?
DESTINY – THE FUTURE
Utopia
• An imagined place or state of
things in which everything is
perfect. The word was first used in
the book Utopia (1516) by Sir
Thomas More.
• Synonyms: paradise, heaven (on
earth), Eden, Garden of Eden,
Shangri-La, Elysium; idyll, nirvana,
God's country
Nihilism
• The rejection of all religious and
moral principles – often the belief
that life is meaningless –
skepticism, negativity, cynicism,
pessimism
• As a philosophy extreme skepticism
that nothing in world has a real
existence
DESTINY AND TIME
Temporary with no afterlife
Atheism
Annihilation
Naturalism
Circular – Life Nonstop Circular
Hinduism
Buddhism
Eternal with a resurrection
Christianity
Judaism
Islam
COMPARISON
• Judaea-Christian
• Origin – world created by a
Creator God
• Meaning – every man has
value imparted to him by his
Creator or God
• Morality – there exists a code
of conduct expected by this
God- Moral absolutes
• Destiny – one day all the
injustices will be settled by
God. An Utopia will occur
ruled and reigned by Him
• Secularism
• Origin – no Creator – time +
chance = complexity and order
• Meaning – every man
determines purpose as he
deems best
• Morality – there does not
exist a code of moral absolutes.
All is relative. We all simply
dance to the tune of our DNA
• Destiny – there is no after life
– it is only speculative – make
the best of what you have
The End
