Evidence based practice is defined as making clinical decisions using the best available research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences in the context of available resources. It systematically connects scientifically generated evidence with expert practitioner knowledge to benefit a patient or client group. Implementing evidence based practice is expressed as the successful function between evidence, context, and facilitation. Evidence based physiotherapy similarly integrates the best available evidence with clinical judgement and patient values and preferences to optimize outcomes. Sources of evidence are organized hierarchically and models of evidence based practice provide conceptual frameworks for integrating research into clinical decision making.
