1) The UK government has significantly increased investment in parenting support programs since 2006, including through Sure Start children's centers and schools providing extended services, over 3,500 parent support advisors, and family intervention projects in every local authority area. 2) Evidence shows the importance of parenting interventions in changing behaviors and the critical role of practitioner skills in delivering effective interventions. A small number of evidence-based programs initially dominated the national debate. 3) There is now a wide range of parenting practice approaches in use across the UK. Mechanisms are needed to improve program choice, fidelity to proven practices, and understanding of effective practices where evidence is still limited.
