Magazine cover design
How did I create the experiment?
• I used Adobe Photoshop to create the magazine cover experiment (photo on the left). Due to my
previous knowledge with Photoshop and having previously created a magazine cover before, I
didn’t feel the need to use a tutorial for my experiment.
Did the experiment go well?
• I am rather proud of how the experiment for the magazine cover has gone. I am happy that the
drop shadows for the main image and the cover photos have appeared crisp and well matched
with the images they form a shadow of. I am also happy that is has stuck to a specific colour
scheme that fits the subject matter it is intended for, with the language used also fittingly written
based on the subject matter of football too.
• A couple of things I would like to have improved includes the masthead, mainly for the name of
the product more than anything. Whilst I think the font suits the subject of football, I do also think
that the name ’United Opinion’ does seem slightly lame considering other Man United magazines
that already exist. However I am also understanding that this name was merely used for the
experiment and will have no future bearings towards my final product.
• I would have also liked to have improved some of the outline etching on Bruno Fernandes as
when zoomed in some of it may look badly smoothed out on the outside of the cut-out, especially
noticeable around his ear.
How will this influence my project?
• This has made me think that using a consistent colour scheme that works well towards the subject
matter it is trying to represent is a key component towards a successful magazine, as well as
making sure that the cover isn’t too cluttered with stories and articles. I also forgot to include a
price and the number of the issue.
Animation
How did I create the experiment?
• I created the animation on PixelArt,
deciding to base the animation off of a
section of the video game, Sonic
Heroes. I focused on a simple
animation of an airship firing a cannon
towards the screen.
Did the experiment go well?
• I think that it mostly went okay. I’m
most pleased about how the flame
and smoke comes out of the cannon as
well as the cannonball.
• I think that the biggest criticism I have with the animation is that I feel the animation does jump a bit too
quickly and it causes the flight of the cannonball and the movement of the airship to feel inconsistent at times.
• From a design point of view, I do think that the design of the airship is a bit lazy, most likely because I didn’t
feel the need to put extreme detail into an experiment of a first ever animation for me.
How will this influence my project?
• I know that I will put more effort into the design aspects of the animation, as well as ensuring the frame speed
and animation movement is accurate.

How did I create the experiment?
• I used Beep Box in order to create this musical track, using
three instruments, as seen in the screenshots above. I wanted
to keep it simple as it was my first time using it, but I still really
enjoyed my time creating it, and I think the result is pretty
cool, if a little long for a short and basic number.
Did the experiment go well?
• I think it went very well. As I said I do think the
music itself is quite basic and simple, which is
understandable as it’s my first time using it, but
I really like the way I managed to build up the
instruments after the synth creates the rhythm
and tempo.
How will this influence my project?
• It will give me an urge to try out different
instruments and tempos in order to find
whatever suits the atmosphere of my project.
